I'm a planner. I love to dream, plot, and agonize over every detail, especially when it comes to vacations. When I think about it, I'm pretty sure this started with my first trip to Disney World when I was 11. When my family went to Disney for the 1st time, it was a really big deal for us. My Dad spent months reading and planning; figuring out how he was going to make it work. I loved "helping" him plan. I'm still not sure I've seen him happier or more excited since (despite graduations, a marriage, and 2 grandchildren). In the end, we spent a week in a tent at Ft Wilderness in mid-June, which I was not a huge fan of. That's when my own plotting began. (Insert evil laugh)
Fast forward 18 yrs to the summer of 2011. Since the 1st trip, my parents & some combination of my family have returned to FL, often incorporating time at The World. In 2011 they wanted to include my kids, then 7 & 4, on a 2 wk trip that would of course include a visit to WDW. I had no interest in repeating the long drives of my childhood and 2 wks was out of the question for my work schedule. Easy solution, DH & I would fly down & meet the rest of the group for the last part of the trip. Or maybe not. DH absolutely refused to go. He wanted nothing to do with Disney, summer in Florida, huge crowds, and peak prices.
That was fine, we went without him. Overall, we had a great trip with a little time at MK, AK, & IoA with my parents, one of my brothers & his GF. But all of those times my family drove me a little nuts, or I saw something that would have made DH chuckle, I reverted to my 11 year-old self and started planning our epic return to Disney.
When we got back, I started dropping hints about how much we missed DH on vacation, the little things I wished he had seen, how well behaved the kids were, how magical it was to see them light up at special moments, what would be a good time for him to go to WDW with us, etc. Finally, DH bluntly told me he would not go to WDW when it was crowded, hot, and/or expensive. So I suggested November
Because he actually is a wonderful person and saw that it was important to me, he agreed to cut into valuable deer season time and come with us to WDW this November
Like any good WDW planner, I had all the deets worked out in time to be online & on the phone bright & early on t -180. I have been updating, obsessing, & babbling about this trip ad nauseum to my family to the point I'm worried I'm going to ruin it for them
So now I'm going to talk to you guys about it and hopefully get some good pointers in the process!
So here are the details:
Who:
Myself, you can call me Desmo. Mother of 2, spouse, accountant, and roller derby queen
DH, Father of 2, engineer, outdoorsman extrodinaire
DS10, jock, scholar, gentle soul, and all around crazy kid
DD6, dancer, soccer player, reader, dreamer, mini-me
When: November 11-18
Where: 4 nights at POR, 3 nights at a Best Western on I-Drive (for the US portion of the trip)
For the WDW portion we have 5 day passes w/out PH and DDP
Plan:
Day 1 MK
Day 2 AK / Ep
Day 3 Ep
Day 4 MK
Day 5 US
Day 6 IoA
That's all for now. Maybe I'll talk about my rationale for touring order, pass selection,DDP, ADRs & FP+ in another post.
Thanks for reading!
