Can you make 2 ADRs for the same restaurant for the same time? There will definitely be 3 of us and possibly 5, so I was going to make an ADR for 3 and an ADR for 2. It doesn't matter if we eat at the same table. I just don't know if the other 2 are definitely going and I don't want to mess up my ADRs if they decide not to go at the last minute.

or

If I make all ADRs for 5 and they don't go, and we just show up with 3, will I be charged for no shows?

You will have to have 2 separate accounts and possibly 2 separate credit cards. The system will only let you have 1 reservation during a given time span.

When i called and ask about doing something similar, they said to have one of the other persons make the reservation, as sometimes their system will cancel reservations for the same name with same account info.

Unless it's a prepaid event (CRT, HDDR, etc), make the ADR for 5. At any of the cc-guarantee places (not prepaid, just held), you will not be charged a fee for a partial party, so long as someone shows up. Just let them know the "real" party size when you get to the podium to check in. It won't be a problem.

(Plus, the way the ADR system is, just because there's something available for 5 doesn't mean there's anything available for both 3 and 2.)

Note: if 5 gives you trouble at non-prepaid locations, try 6. The system is wonky with odd numbers.

As others have said, it's not a problem to make an ADR for 5 even if only 3 are going to show up. The conventional wisdom on the Disboard is to make the ADR for the maximum party size (or next even number up as Cafeen mentioned) you might have. It's easier to reduce the number of people at the podium than it is to add.
