Can i made an ADR for 10 people but only 6 show up?

Hi. I may have more people or a minimum of 6 people in my party. Since i am not sure how many people but do know where we're eating, can i make a ADR for the bigger number --but what if there are less people when we check in?

The other people may come to Disney last second but i want to book the dining asap, which i already did, for 6. If i wait til i know if they're coming or not, there wont be any openings, highly unlikely.

Advice please

In reality, you can do it, but some people might think you shouldn't because your holding a bigger table than you need and possibly be stopping another family who might want to eat at those locations from getting a table there.

If you tell disney dining on the phone, they probably won't allow it, so you'll have to just say you need a table for 10 even though your not sure.

I have heard different things about actually showing up with a different number of people. Some say the people at the podium had a problem with it, while others said they didn't have a problem especially if they weren't too busy or crowded that day, but I don't think any eatery at WDW is ever "slow" anymore.

I would try to finalize the plans and be sure just in case.

However, as soon as you know how many people are actually going to show up, call and decrease the party size.

With a party of ten and only six are going to make it, a table for four just opened up. Someone else will need that table. The sooner you cancel the unneeded seats the better.

.....or make 2 ressies, one for 6 and one for 4 and if they come ask to be seated near each other. I would go with the 10 if you think there is a good chance they will come and the 4 and 6 ressies if you think they will be no shows.

Disney won't let you do this - we've tried the last two trips. They say you must cancel the ADR, and try to get another slot for your "real" party size instead. Believe me, I've tried and tried and tried, thinking I was doing the "right" thing.

We've showed up 1-2 short a few times...the nature of foster parenting, we never know exactly who's coming to the World with us, and thus make ADR's for our maximum family size. Really no other way to do it!

Showing up 1-2 short has never been a problem thus far.

I don't think it should be a problem.

Last year for my birthday, my party of 6 for Garden Grill ended up being a party of 3. We told them when we checked it, and it was no problem at all- they just gave us a smaller table.

If you have any reservations where a CC guarantee is required, that may be a problems to show up with a smaller party.

I was also going to suggest making two ADRs, 1 for the 6 you know are coming and one for the 4 tentative group

That is a great idea!!

Also, to the OP, keep in mind a few restaurants require a CC hold and if a large portion of your party does not show, you may be charged.
