Can I Lose Points by Rebooking?

Next month my family plans on booking a two-bedroom at our home resort (Boardwalk). When the 7th month mark rolls around we may choose to change our reservation to a location that requires fewer points than the Boardwalk room we will have booked. Does anyone know from experience if we would end up losing the difference in points that we would no longer need for the new room? Does the difference in points go back into our account?

Any info would be appreciate.

You would not lose those extra points. However, if they were borrowed or banked, they stay in the use year that the reservation was in. If they already were current UY points and if you are in your banking period, you could bank them into the next UY.

The points are returned to your account but what type of points may make a difference in whether you can make use of them in future :

~ if your current reservation is made up entirely of Current Use Year points ( these would be points from the allotment you receive for UY your trip will take place ) then any unused points as a result of switching your reservation at 7mos would be bankable if you aren't past banking deadline, if you are past your banking deadline then these Current UY points will expire at the end of your UY.

~ if your current reservation also includes banked and / or borrowed then these points must be used by you in another reservation before Use Year ends ( because once banked points can't be re-banked and once borrowed points can't be put back into UY they were originally from ). OR you could transfer those points to another member for them to use if you haven't already done a transfer during that UY OR you could rent the points to someone looking to make a DVC reservation.

If you have banked and/or borrowed points in your reservation you should tell MS that you want those points used first in the new reservation you are switching to at 7mos so that any Current UY points in the reservation will be what is returned to your account.

Good luck :goodvibes
