Can I just put a candle in a regular dessert?

I don't want to order a cake for my son's birthday while we are WDW. It isn't because I am cheap, but because they don't look that good, we don't need a whole cake, and I am pretty sure the dessert at the restaurant will be better.

Anyway, if we order a dessert from a restaurant, will they put a candle in it and sing HB to him?

just to be on the safe side, bring a candle with you. Take your server to the side and ask if they would do this for him and give him/her the candle.

Also in the Bridal areas of Hobby Lobby you can find battery operated candles (no flame or match required)

When we checked in at Guest Services for the dessert party on arrival at MK back in 2011, my brother sent me away and then asked them something. I wondered what he was arranging, but said nothing.

That night, while I was up at the counter getting desserts I came back to find a crispy treat with a '50' candle in it and he lit it as I came back. Everyone at the party sang happy birthday to me as well, which was nice (albeit only the table to our right could actually see me as we were on the lower level).

The point was, he was asking whether he could bring in and light a candle at the meal and was told that he could.

On a couple of occasions when we've been a TS meals they've brought out a special cupcake with a candle on it which they've lit at the table.

If you have a word with your server on arrival they'll sort out something special - you need to note on the reservations at the time of booking that it's a birthday meal though so they can prepare something in advance. If it doesn't look like a candle will be brought out along with the cupcake, you can always put your own in at that point.

I am confused. What will taste better?

Pretty sure he was referring to your original comment about the restaurant dessert being better than a cake or birthday cupcake.:)

I can guarantee it'll taste better! I've not eaten a single one of my Disney birthday cupcakes - they're disgusting!

I'm confused too. If you've never eaten one, how could you know that they all taste disgusting? I've had a few. And while they may not be the best I've ever had, they are far from being the worst. Not sure what your expectations of a free cupcake are.

First of all, I'm a she not a he.

I tried to eat the first birthday cupcake and it coated my teeth and was horrible. The following year I tried again, but it wasn't any better. I've not attempted to eat one since.

I'm not talking about the nice, big cupcakes you buy - they're lovely. The little free ones they give you at your table when it's your birthday are the ones I'm referring to. They're batch-baked and frozen. They're sticky and claggy.

So, to clarify: if you stick a candle in a bought cupcake it'll taste a lot better. I've had some amazing red velvet cupcakes at Disney.

Yes, if you tell them you are celebrating your son's birthday, most places will bring him a dessert (usually a cupcake) with a candle in it and sing some type of happy birthday song. I cannot speak about all of the restaurants, but we've celebrated various birthdays over the years - the ones that come to mind are: 1900PF, Chef Mickey, LTT, Captain's Grille, Cape May Café, Teppan Edo (bowl of ice cream and a chef's hat). My kids actually love the cupcakes!

I've seen them do "Birthday" things to whatever dessert you order with your meal at a couple places. For example, my DH had a B-day meal at Le Cellier and he ordered that Chocolate "Moose". They wrote Happy Birthday in chocolate around the edges of the plate, put a candle in and I'm pretty sure they sang Happy Birthday"

I would add that singing happy birthday may not always occur, even if you let your server know you're celebrating a birthday. I've only heard the servers sing happy birthday twice in all of my meals at WDW (out of dozens of meal).

Ok...perfect! This is exactly what I was hoping for. I want to order a dessert of my son's choice and hoping they will put a candle in it for him! Thank you!
Now to pick which restaurant to go to for his birthday that would be special...he doesn't want character meals.

Which makes sense... I can not imagine how many hundreds of times they would have to sing HB each day if they sang to everyone who said it was their birthday!
