I need help. Serious help. I just can't get motivated to get back on track with my dieting! I did Atkins last year for 6 months and lost 30+ pounds. Loved it and did well. After the first few weeks, it was like second nature. I don't know what happened, but I then started to fall off little by little...until I'm at the point now where I feel a total loss of control. I've managed to gain back about 10 pounds, and am really scared to gain back more. I need some encouragement and would love to join in on the WISH board.

My major problem is exercise...or lack of. I tried WATP but found it boring. Would love to try the Firm, but am afraid it will be too advanced me (any suggestions??)

I guess if I can just come here to learn and listen, get some encouragement and maybe whine from time to time, I might be able to finally stay on track for an extended period of time.

I'm going on a 7-day Western Caribbean cruise in February and I would LOVE to be at least 30 pounds lighter by then.

Thanks for listening.....

Welcome to the WISH boards Sammy. Even though you may consider yourself to be a beginner, you can always modify any or all of the exercises in the FIRM to go at your own pace. They always have at least one instructor in the video doing modifications for beginners. I do enjoy the FIRM workouts in addition to some of the others that I do.

Videofitness.com is a great place to learn about workout videos. I like the Ten Steps to Better Health and Fitness Using Exercise Videos as a starting place to find out which types of videos you may enjoy.

We do have an exercise challenge going on right now. 1000 minutes of exercise for the month of August. If you want to join, you can always reduce the number of minutes for your goal since you're joining later in the month; we had a WISHer join the challenge yesterday with a goal of 600 minutes. I think we'll start another exercise challenge for the month of September.

Have you tried south beach?? It is a little easier to follow long term than atkins, and has similar results.

Rae Ann: thanks for the link to the video info....I'm going to check that out for sure. Thanks also for the welcome! I know there's no one who's going to motivate me except for "me", but I just need to vent!

Fresh Tressa: I have the SB book and have wanted to start it, but I'm so "Atkins-minded" that I have a hard time eating the carbs! I'm going to try it again, but is there a substitute for the tomato juice in the sample menus? I detest the stuff...can I just leave it out?.

I've made up my mind to start fresh tomorrow morning! I'm going to pull out the SB book tonight and refresh my memory. I'll have to run to the grocery store tomorrow though...not sure I have the things I need for the next few days! Thanks!

Start exercising little by little. You can always increase the time and intensity alittle at a time.

Take a deep breath - let it out slowly and think your decision through.....If you take it one step at a time it will be that much easier.

We are all there for you.

Sammy, you sound like you're fed up with where you are but are a bit overwhelmed at starting to make all these changes. May I suggest baby steps?? Make just one change this week - drink 80 - 100 oz. of water a day or eat a low-carb breakfast daily or walk for 1/2 an hour each day. Pick one good habit to start on this week.

Then next week, you can pick another good habit to incorporate. This isn't an all-or-nothing deal - you can add one or two good habits into your daily life and start to see changes.

Walking is a great way to start exercising. Why not join the August exercise challenge and commit to a 15 or 20 minute walk daily? You may want to save those exercise videos for the cold winter to come and enjoy the fresh air of summer for now, if you have a safe place to walk.

Best wishes, Sammy, and welcome to the WISH board! Hang out here, start a journal if you think that will help, and join us on the road to healthy living!!

Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone! I had a very busy weekend with the kids and didn't manage to get to the grocery store until Sunday. But...I bought lots of "good" foods and started full force yesterday. I had a very good day and even resisted the kids' treats....I'm marking that as a triumph for the day!

Been trying to increase the water consumption and purchased a sports-type bottle with measurements printed on the side so I can keep track of how much I'm drinking.

I'm going to limit my "life changes" to those two things this week: eating better and drinking water....that way I won't feel overwhelmed and set myself up to fail. I'll think about adding regular exercise a little later. I want to feel more comfortable with this way of eating first.

Thanks again for all your kind words. I think I'm gonna like it here!
