Just curious to know if I can (safely) iron a tapestry? After moving and being stored my tapestry is in need of something to get all the wrinkles out.

Hmmm...

I think gently steaming and then coaxing the wrinkles out by hand would be safer than ironing... probably depends on what sort of fibers it's made from.

I have a steamer similar to this one:

I use it all the time, and seldom get the iron out anymore. It's great for draperies and clothing. I just use the iron when I need to create sharp creases now.

(Okay... I do confess that I have taken to sending all of our shirts that need ironing out to be done. :o )

But I vote for steaming.

Another option (if you don't have a steamer) is to isteam iron it, from the reverse, with a towel over it so the iron does not actually come in contact with it...

Thanks. I don't have a steamer, sure wish I did though as I have so much I could use it on with this move. I read the label and it says dry clean only, but nothing else. Maybe I will try to lightly steam it with the iron and see how it works.

You might find hanging it will help a lot.

It has been hanging for a couple of days and it looks a little better, but still needs a little something. Maybe if I wait a little longer it will look better.

I don't know what your tapestry is made of, but it did help mine. I don't remember how long it took to get all the wrinkles out though.
