DH's cousin and his uncle have Celiac's disease. It's where your body has trouble dealing with gluten. It's almost like an allergy to wheat, but not exactly. Some people are so sensitive that they can't eat french fries that have been cooked in oil that has been used to cook anything with gluten on it or can't eat a hamburger patty if it's touched a bun. I don't understand it myself completely. Unfortunately, it means learning a whole new way of eating because in the US almost everything has gluten from soy sauce to cola. But it can be dealt with and there are some great web pages out there. And you can find rice flour and other substitutes at health food stores. The wonderful news is that WDW restaurants are great about being helpful. They'll fix special meals if you notify them in advance and they are knowledgeable.
Hope he's feeling better soon. I bet they can get it under control in no time.
No problem. Wish I could be of more help, but like I said I really don't know a whole lot about it. I do know that DH's cousin was pretty sick and since she's been on her diet she does just fine. Learning to cook a new way is a pain, but certainly worth it in the end.
Thanks for the info..I didn't know that it had a name. I've heard of it (having worked in the fast food industry),but was unaware that's what it was called until now.
Aidensmom, I am so sorry to hear that your son is not feeling well and has to go through these tests. I will keep both him and your whole family in my good thoughts and prayers that whatever the doctors find can be treated or managed.
The not-knowing part of dealing with your child's health can be *so difficult.* When ds10 was three, he was misdiagnosed for two weeks before he was finally hospitalized for what turned out to be bacterial meningitis. That was the absolute worst month of my life, but once we finally had a diagnosis (as serious as it was), at least we had a plan to deal with it.
Once again, I will be thinking of Aiden and you and your husband, and send all my best wishes for his good health and happiness.
