We're going through the same thing (sort of) with DW's nan, who is in hospital with a broken hip and may be going to a nursing home as well when she gets out.

I was at the bedside of a dear friend this past Thursday as she died peacefully. As hard as death is, it is somewhat reassuring that a loved one's death was peaceful and final goodbyes were said.
