Can I give away (or sell) Hoppers I purchased with Free Dining?

As long as you haven't used that ticket before (done the finger scan with it), you can give it to anyone and they can use it as their own. It won't show up under their name, but names are never checked when guests are entering parks with regular tickets (not referring to annual passes). The CMs just want to see Mickey turn green, then they move on to the next guest.

They will be removing the digital ticket entitlements from their MDE and placing them on a hard, plastic ticket that was never linked to their MDE. This ticket can be sold or given to someone to link to another MDE.

If the hard, plastic ticket were linked to the original owner's MDE, it could not be sold or given away because hard tickets remain where they are initially linked, just as MBs are linked and not transferable.

My package with tickets is automatically linked to MDE. Correct? But I have been able to remove my tickets from MDE on four separate occasions. They did not remain in MDE. I've even asked the CM to write the name of the ticket holder on the ticket so that when I re-link them, they wouldn't be mixed up. I was told that it did not matter since the ticket was completely unassociated with anyone when it is removed from MDE. So I have done this in the past.

The question is, can it still be done?

Yes, because you removed "entitlements" out of your MDE and placed them on the plastic ticket that was not linked to your MDE. It can still be done. Always make sure the CM does not link the plastic ticket to your MDE account.

When the plastic ticket is linked to your MDE, if you sell it or give it away, the entitlements and plastic ticket are still in your MDE and the buyer can't link the plastic ticket to their MDE to pre-book FPs. They can enter a park and book FPs at a kiosk.

Thank you! :)

We already have tickets and Disney has told me they expire Dec 2017 and that I can't even give them to my niece or nephew. If the tickets are not assigned to any "My Disney Experience Account" (other than the purchasers - the tickets are for my kids), how would they even know.

Unused tickets don't expire however they added a new clause that after 1 year from purchase (or your vacation date for a package) if the price goes up, you need to pay the difference in order to use them. I think this is what the cm was confused abotu when they said they expire.

If the ticket is non-transferable when you purchased it, it's not transferable.

EDITED TO ADD: I forgot the move them to a plastic ticket option just mentioned. :)

The hard ticket can be sold or given to anyone.
When that ticket is used for the first time to enter a park, the finger of the guest using that ticket will have his finger-scan automatically associated with that ticket, and will THEN become the official "owner" for the life of that ticket.

Thanks to you both! I was thinking since the original ticket entitlement was assigned in MDE to the son who decided not to come, it had to be specifically reassigned.

I have separated tickets bought as part of a free dining package before. In fact, Disney recommended it as we had other tickets linked on our account. I visited guest services on my check in day and they took the tickets off of our magic bands and gave us hard tickets. We then used them a few months ago for another non- free dining trip. The whole process took less than 5 minutes.

This is where it gets tricky. They didn't remove the ticket from the band. They might have removed the ticket from the individual's profile and associated it with a hard ticket. But most reports indicate that they are not supposed to do that; once a ticket is associated with a profile, they won't remove it.

Alternatively, they may have simply added a ticket-card to your profile and prioritized the tickets. In which case, the card acts just like any other band linked to the account. This is where people get confused, thinking they're using the specific ticket "on the card" but the card is just another link, same as a band, back to your profile.

When did this start? I purchased tickets from UT earlier this year and won't be using them until December 2017. Are you saying we have to pay the difference in order to use them?

Unlikely.

It might be limited to single day tickets but when i'm home later I can check and get the exact wording, it started when 1 day went up with tiered pricing earlier this year.

The CMs at a WDW ticket booth or Guest Relations have no idea what guests paid for their tickets from Undercover Tourist (or Parksavers, etc.) That's why there is "price bridging."

It would be a complete waste of time to buy them ahead of price increases if this is the case. What's done is done, though! I still haven't linked them to MDE or anything either.

That's complete and utter nonsense. One day tickets now have an expiration date. If they expire, they're still worth what you paid for them. No other "normal" ticket has an expiration date.

So I should be good? This takes me by surprise can you tell?? :D

Yes, you're fine. Your tickets will be valid in December 2017, and, if you wish to add days or features, you'll be credited with the then-current gate price towards the upgrade.

Thank you kindly!

And apologies to the OP for hijacking the thread :)

It's bad form to argue with someone else's experience. Please don't discount what others have to say because you THINK you know better. Guest relations told me they separated the ticket from the magic band. I asked them to do it based on advice I received on this board either from ROBO or Cheshire Figment. The tickets were then not on my profile at all through the next two trips until I personally added them this February. I have found at Disney that what is possible or allowed varies greatly depending on who you talk to. YMMV but in my experience over the last few years when the request is reasonable and made politely almost anything is possible at Disney.

I wasn't arguing with the experience. I provided the two possible scenarios. Regardless, since nothing is "on" the band, it's important to make the distinction that they didn't "remove it from the band."
