Can I get to Walmart and back in under two hours?

I really want to do a quick Walmart run at some point during our trip. There are so many goodies to buy that are not available in Canada. I know what I want so I can't imagine spending more than 20 or 30 actually in the store.

DH doesn't want to use up precious Disney time! I'm torn . . . I figured if it was only a couple of hours (taking a cab there and back), it wouldn't really eat up too much time, right?

We're staying at the Fairfield Inn, btw. Anyone have any experience or advice?

I know what you mean, we are the same here in NZ and always hit Walmart during our visits. The closest supercentre is 10 minutes away by car.

Be aware that they often don't carry everything in store, if there is something in particular you are looking for do a site to store order to make sure.

The Anaheim Supercenter on Euclid is open 24 hours. You might be able to duck in there in the middle of the night, but then you might be giving up some precious sleep time.

Another issue is that unless you're willing to pay the driver to wait, you're going to have a tough time get a cab ride back unless you call it in. That will take time.

I guess what a lot of people from the US don't understand is that Walmart is different for us international visitors. We have Target so it's just like home. Each trip we love our visits to Walmart, such an amazing selection. :thumbsup2

And so much cheaper than here/oz!

Putting aside the political commentary, regardless of what store you visit, you should go to a store that YOU want to. I second the suggestion of having the cab wait if you can make it a brief visit. If you want tine to browse, then call ahead for a pick up at a particular time from the store.

If you want to go to Wal-Mart, go! That is where we shop. I know people have issues with them, but they are the cheapest around. My DH went to a different grocery and paid twice as much as Wal-Mart. We can't do that on a regular basis and still be able to live. Although, I am curious, what do they have at Wal-Mart here in the states that you can't get in Canada.

I wonder that too. I went to a Wal-Mart outside of Montreal and it seemed pretty similar to the ones at home.

I wonder - if you want certain items can they be found on the Walmart site and sent to your hotel during your stay? Or for that matter could they be sent to your home? (But I don't like to spend time shopping when I can create an order while sitting at home enjoying not shopping, so maybe my perspective is skewed.)

As for the "political" aspects being inappropriate - I would not call having an awareness of a businesses practices political. If you shop at any store, it makes sense to know what you are supporting with your dollar (or Canadian dollar!) and be conscious of your choices.

I agree with going at night, after everyone is settled in for the night..(I find shopping and looking relaxing)..When you call for a cab to come and get you, ask for a return pick- up at the same time.

I have visited a Wal-Mart location outside of the US, and it was a very different experience than you'd find in the US. They had fresh meat - not just prepackaged meat in trays like you'd find in the US. They also had bulk items. You also had to snake through the top floor and hit all the departments without any shortcuts.

I could imagine someone coming to the US and finding the experience to be far different.

Now I found the selection at certain WM locations in the US to be different. Like in Hawaii where they had Mauna Loa chocolate covered macadamias for $2 for a pretty good sized box and lots of swim/snorkeling gear.

Is the Walmart safe to go to at night? Most Walmarts in our area are not built in the most desirable areas and I wouldn't suggest someone going there at night.

That's so odd (but certainly an important consideration). We have them in both great and not so great areas here.

We found Target (about a 10 minute cab ride from our hotel the Anaheim Islander Inn and Suites) had more of a selection that we could not get here in Canada. But I live in very Northern Canada and we have no Target, only Walmart and Superstore :headache:.

Have a Magical time and Happy Shopping!

Things that they have that we don't get up here? Total junk food binge.

Cherry coke (I love that stuff but it's not sold up here so it's always a novel treat when I go south of the border). M&Ms is the wildest flavours (white chocolate, mint, birthday cake, candy corn, coconut-the list of flavours I've brought back is amazing compared to the chocolate, peanut or pretzel we get up here). Booze-don't get that in regular stores up here. There are some cereals we don't get up here (DH insists on his 1 box of Cookie Crisp, Fruity Pebbles, and Frankenberry if we're down close enough to Hallowe'en). Chip flavours that we can't get up here-although we do have some up here that you don't have down there. Orville Redenbacher Caramel microwave popcorn.

DS is allergic to milk protein and with some hunting I've been able to find him some different foods that we can't get up here that he loves for something different (and then I have to dole it out when we get home so that it's not all gone in a short time frame).

California Baby products aren't sold in Canada at all so I like to get some of those for DS as they don't bother his eczema when we go down for vacations.

Mentadent toothpaste...

And that's just off the top of my head without really thinking about it too much.

I have been to the Walmart on Euclid several times, and it's usually at night when I am leaving the parks. It has been perfectly safe every time I've gone. I've also gone to the nearby Target - also safe. I had no worries at either one.
