Can I get some "hunker down" music?

Just letting you all know that there are some Dissers out here in the Canadian far east who are preparing to hunker down in anticipation of Hurricane Bill. We're expecting a lot of weather from late Saturday through Sunday, and depending on where in Atlantic Canada he actually lands.

I'm going out today to get some hurricane food. What would you all suggest? Keeping the nutritional content in mind of course.

I lived in Halifax during Juan and it was one of the scariest times of my life. We had no power for a week. I will be hoping it moves to the east before it hits the Maritimes.

Living in Ontario now, although the weather here lately isn't any better.

I was in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island on a trip once. It's beautiful! I'd love to go back some day.

Stopped at the grocery store this afternoon. So did EVERYONE else!

We live in the country, no power = no water pump, so we stock up on drinking water. We have tons of veggies in the garden, that would keep us with SOME sort of food. It's summer so we will rely on the bar-b-que to cook any meat that may start to thaw in the freezer (we have charcoal, but if you use propane remember to fill up). Good old bread and peanut butter will keep the kids happy in our house. Some non-perishable snacks (crackers etc.) are good. You might want to check your battery supply as well as charge up any electronics (laptops, cell phones, ipods, portable DVD players etc.).

Hopefully all will be well for everyone that may be affected by Bill. Hurricane Juan wasn't fun... but I felt White Juan was much worse (no power in January ) even though it didn't last as long. We are fortunate we don't have to deal with weather like this here in Nova Scotia on a regular basis like so many others have to.

Oh Dear God, White Juan! At least we had power....but we lived on a dead end Road in Halifax and it took 4 days to plow us out! We ended up as a neighbourhood getting snowblowers and shovelling ourselves.

Nothing like 2 natural disasters in a row to bring out neighbourhood kindness.

Anyhow I am thinking off all my fellow maritimers at this tense time.

Thanks for the pixie dust everyone. They aren't giving any details yet, but for sure lots of rain, maybe 150 mm (6 inches, I think), very high winds, storm surge that corresponds with high tide. Here's hoping that the electricity won't be out for too long. I've got some very nice fish in the freezer that can go very wrong very quickly
