Can I get a carseat from the rental car place?

Yes you can and the fee's vary between rental companies but they will charge you per day until the max is reached.

Other option would be to take your own.

I have found using Hertz w/ my AAA gets me a free car seat and usually that saves us $50 (for the weekly rental).
The rental companies do not install them for liability issues - so be prepared to install yourself - thank God my husband is always with me when I travel w/ my son!

You can, but I've read horror stories about them being filthy/broken/recalled/not the type of seat requested and inappropriate for the child, so have a backup plan.

You can also rent from an off site company that can meet you at the airport or the rental agent. We have used FloridaBabyGear.com for other rental and all of the items we have gotten have been in great shape.

Yep, we tried this ONCE and never again. It was disgusting.

Take your own from home. Car seats are free on most airlines as checked luggage along with strollers. We have checked ours the last 3 trips and not had a problem. We put in in a large clear plastic bag with a luggage tag.

What would the backup plan be?

I would bring yours with you and use it on the plane... renting a seat is like rolling the dice w/o the odds being in your favor!

Find out if there's a rental place that will deliver to the airport? Actually, I'd just bring my own seat and use it on the place, so it wouldn't be an issue.

Actually since your one ds is 6yo and the other 1yo...I would bring a low back booster for the 6yo as a carryon (the 6yo gets a carryon and a personal item... and make him carry it!!) and the 1yo's car seat.

Definitely use the 1yo's seat rear facing as in the car...makes it easier on mom or dad to interact w/ them on the plane and there won't be any seat kicking!

Put both boys next to window seats in adjacent rows w/ the 6yo in front so you don't get any complaints about not being able to recline the seat in front of the 1yo's car seat....of course each boy gets one parent w/ them. ;)

My kids are about the same age difference and this set up worked great for us on the plane!
