My Publix bakery makes pretty good pizza crust dough. They put it in a bag and then all you have to do is roll it out and make a pizza. It is on sale buy one get one this week. It is just me and my daughter, so would only need one. Can I freeze it raw and would it be ok and cook the same after frozen? Would it be ok to just freeze it in the ball form or would you roll it out? Just curious. It isn't really that big of an expense, but I'd hate to do it and then get it out to defrost to make dinner only to find out it didn't taste good and ruined a dinner.

Thanks.

My grocery store bakery had a b1g2 free deal on pizza dough a couple weeks ago, we bought six and froze them all. We had two of them last week and they were great, I didn't notice any difference. My store freezes their dough and has dough that is thawed, so I guess it's okay to be frozen.

Absolutely.

Just thaw it in the fridge, so it doesn't get warm patches and rise wonkily.

If it's sold in very thin bags, I might repackage before freezing, into like, maybe freezer ziplocks or whatever, the smallest size that'll fit individually, squash the dough down some and press the air out of the bag so it'll lay flatter and have less air, it'll keep better - then thaw in the fridge and use as normal!

Our grocery store sells the exact same dough in the exact same bags both frozen and refrigerated and the baker always suggests buying a bunch when they're on sale and keeping them in the freezer. We have never had any issue freezing/thawing in the thin bags they come in, but they don't usually stay in the freezer for too long. If you're storing them for a long period of time, perhaps you could repackage but otherwise they should be fine.

I also wanted to note, our store sells wheat and regular dough. We have found that the wheat one rolls out much easier than the regular-- so much so that DH now will only buy the wheat. (Plus everyone in our family prefers the taste).

Yup! I always pick up pizza dough when I go to Trader Joes (cheap and we like it). I get extras and throw them in the freezer... let thaw in the fridge, and are great!

Thanks everyone. Maybe I will get 4, but we would only have pizza once a month or so. I'll see if they have the wheat, and also I will remember to ask them if it has been previously frozen.

I would just suggest making your own...it costs less than 25 cents and tastes much better. It doesn't take much time, either.

You know, I do make most food from scratch--mabe fresh banana chips today which my dd loved using only bananas and nothing else, i.e preservatives, artificial color, etc. I'm not a premade, boxed food person since I like to know what is in my food. Just when it comes to breads and doughs I don't have the patience to deal with it. I've tried many times in the past, and sometimes you just have to know when to give up.:rotfl2:

I'm sure lots here would love your recipe if you care to share it. I know I should make my own, but...........

I usually ask the store to get me some from the freezer rather than what they put out in the case. This way I don't have any concerns about the freeze/refreeze issue.

And if you do want to make your own Fleischman has an "instant" pizza dough yeast package (recipe on the package). It is by far the easiest dough I have ever made and tastes great.
