Very new to all this DVC stuff....thinking about buying into DVC but would like to stay at one of the resorts prior to buying.......can I rent points from one of these sellers even though I do not own DVC? How does this work? How long in advance can I plan and book with the seller? What are my chances of getting the resort I want dates removedTIA

There is an FAQ on renting a reservation at the top of the DVC Rent/Trade board right below this board.

You can rent from a DVC owner directly using the Rent/Trade board to find one (or other venues as well) or you can use a broker company like the board sponsor David - dvcrequest.com .

You can also stay at a DVC resort by booking directly through Disney, just like any other resort reservation, but it will be more expensive than renting unless you have a % off offer from Disney.

you would probably not be renting from a seller, just an owner.

owners can book 11 months out at their home resort and 7 months out anywhere that still has availability. your chances are great at 11 months out and can vary a lot by the 7 month window.

remember that if you are renting from an owner, disney is not involved in any way. you may have to pay 100% within a short period after making the reservation. you may not have any option to cancel. whatever rules the individual owner chooses is what you are stuck with...they own the reservation until you check in.
