Can I customize sushi for my entree at California Grill?

We're headed to Disney in three weeks and have an ADR at California Grill one night. I LOVE sushi, but I'll be 21 weeks pregnant when we're there, and I'm not supposed to eat any sashimi or raw rolls. I usually get my fix from various tempura rolls at home - and there is a tempura roll on the menu, but it has tuna tartare as well. Are they pretty nice about letting customers make special requests for the sushi?

When we were at CA grill this past fall, one of the members of our party was able to customize her sushi to make it her main course. She couldn't go crazy of course, but she was thrilled she was able to do so.

I am thinking you shouldn't have any problem, although now new Chef again, so who knows.

I almost always order the shrimp tempura rolls (not listed on the menu) as my entree & I've never had a problem. It's crispy shrimp, rice, mango & watermelon wrapped in rice paper instead of seaweed, which is the reason I love them. I'm not usually a big sushi eater, but I love these! :thumbsup2

Here's a link to a thread about the CG & there is some pics of what the shrimp tempura looks like.

There is a Shrimp Tempura Roll that isn't listed on the menu and it is OUT OF THIS WORLD!

Its a lovely crisp tempura shrimp, slivers of watermelon and mango, wrapped in soy paper instead of nigiri and served with an orange ginger dipping sauce. It was $18 when we were at CG in October.

Another vote for the Shrimp Tempura Roll. It is AMAZING!

If you are craving something else, the answer is yes, they will make to order.

They're great about it! I was pregnant on our last trip and the waiter had suggestions on customizing the sushi options to avoid the raw elements (specifically leaving the tuna tartare off of something I was looking at). I ended up going with a California roll at DS's request so we could share, but it was nice to know that they are so accomodating.

I can't wait to go back non-pregnant and enjoy all the good stuff that was off limits last time!

California Grill will also make a vegetarian (and vegan) sushi platter. Yum!

Is Yoshi gone? :scared1:

Years ago we could order veggi rolls at the sushi bar. We have spent alot of time and money in CG and they always seemed willing to help out with special orders. We would be shocked if that has changed.

Didn't have any problems at all customizing sushi in June of 08. A very accomodating and wonderful experience!

Chef Jens was promoted to Executive Chef at Epcot. They were "auditioning" new chefs throught the fall. Hadn't heard if they picked a winner.

Yoshi is still there.

I could so eat some Sushi from California Grill - RIGHT NOW!!

Whew! Yoshi is still at CG!

I have eaten at a lot of Sushi places but CG has the best Sushi. To say we over eat at CG is an understatement. :thumbsup2
