Kind of long story but I had enough points in my BC contract to get our dates ahead of time (11 month window) in a studio for my Mom. Now it is 7 month window and I'm securing day by day my 1br at BC (no 2brs available). I have one more day to get and if I do will they let me combine the studio and 1 br ressie into a 2br?

I don't know why not as I believe BCV has 2br rooms that are stuido lockoffs and if so we have the actual reservations for them seperate. This would save me pts and guarentee we get our rooms together. If they don't not a huge deal as it is most important to get our location.

Has anyone done this before, and hopefully my question makes sense!

Maybe, maybe not. Request that you be close to each other on each reservation.

One time (note I said one time), friends had booked a 1BR at OKW and we had a studio. We asked that we be near each other. We were right next to each other and were able to open the connecting door.

Good luck!

Tell MS what you are hoping for; I'm not certain but at this point it seems you will need to waitlist since your post mentions there aren't any 2bedroom villas available. There are 74 2bedroom lock-offs at BCV and 78 2bedroom dedicated units so there's reason to hope imho :)

Best wishes, sending pixiedust: , hope things work out :goodvibes

You may end up next to each other however likely it will not be a lockoff room.
A 2 BR can be a dedicated or a lockoff if there are no 2 BR available that would mean that most lockoff units would be booked as well.... that does not mean there is no chance as a lockoff can be booked as a studio and 1 BR as well I would put a request on the reservation and waitlist for a 2 BR.

I might try to waitlist. But is there dedicated 1br and studios? I guess I'm thinking if studios and 1brs are actually 2br lockoffs and I have ressies for both parts it should be easy for them to take the "sum of the parts" so to speak. Now if there are dedicated studio and 1brs that would be a different story.

I doubt a waitlist will go thru as it is food and wine and we need 10 nights! So we are going to have a blast regardless, just trying to save some pts as a 2br is cheaper than a 1br and studio.

Not all studios and 1 bedrooms are part of lock-offs.

There are 36 dedicated studios and 20 dedicated 1 bedroom villas.

I think you may have a good chance because MS may try to keep available the dedicated studios and dedicated 1 bedrooms for booking guests who are not part of the same travelling party, so if lock-off 2 bedroom villa becomes available for your dates your mom's studio and your 1 bedroom can possibly be combined. If you are also willing to stay in a dedicated 2 bedroom villa you should have that noted/waitlisted as well.

Tell MS what you are hoping for and they will help you best they can setting up waitlist, requests, etc.

Good luck
:)

Thank you! That will probably mean no I will not be able to do what I was thinking. I will ask but I'm sure I will have to waitlist it.

Hi,

Are the lock off rooms the same number of points as a 2 bedroom villa at Bay Lake towers? i just asked because the agent I talked to told me this and I just wanted to make sure that information was accurate..

Thanks!

The point requirements for a 2-bedroom is the same regardless of dedicated or lock-off.

We had separate BCV 1 BR and studio reservations earlier this month, which I made at the 7 month mark, and I was not able to combine them into a single 2 BR unit ahead of time to save points/money. The MS CM even tried to look for this, but was only able to find the separate units. I did, however, request that the rooms be close togehter when I made the reservation and on check in, again just mentioned that we would like to be close together if possible. We actually were assigned a 1 BR and studio that were adjoining (so a 2 BR lockoff), however they were still separate reservations. I think we just ended up being lucky with room assignments and we were grateful that we ended up close togehter, so I hadn't even though about having points readjusted at that time until I read this. Also we did a split stay and were only at BCV for 2nights, so our point difference was not as significant as yours would be for a 10 day trip. I guess, I agree I would waitlist the 2 BR, otherwise if your separate reservations end up being located as part of a lockoff upon check in, you could then check with MS and see if the points could be adjusted. I appologize, I am still new to DVC, so I am not sure if that can be done on the day of check in. Have a great trip, everyone in our family loved our BCV stay and hope to stay there again someday!

A problem may arise in trying to get a point adjustment at check-in. Inside the 31 day mark any points saved by getting a 2 bedroom instead of a 1 bedroom and a studio would go into a holding account. I don't really understand how the inventory system works, how MS decides which 2 bedroom lockoffs will be split up to 1 bedrooms/studios and which will remain 2 bedroom lockoffs. But your safest bet would be to waitlist for a 2 bedroom lockoff and let the waitlist expire at 31 days. And maybe it wouldn't hurt to call just before 31 days out and ask again politely for a supervisor to see if the 1 bedroom and studio you already have could be combined to save points. Good luck!

Actually I had a situation where pts had to be returned (twice in fact) and if it is not due to something you did they can move them out of holding. I had a situation at BLT where the was actually a stnd not a lake view, got ahold of management at contemporary and she agreed. They credited me the pts and MS moved them out of holding. This was the first few months BLT was open and I think they were still making "view" adjustments.

As soon as I firm up another day I will call and see what they can do and will post the outcome here. I had to waitlist one day for the studio which is not a big deal for our travel party but would stop me from doing what I want to do with the whole 2 br/1br thing.

A lockoff 2 bedroom and a dedicated 2 bedroom would be the same points. However, a studio + a 1 bedroom booked separate are generally more points than a 2 bedroom.

I might be wrong, but the reason a 2BR lockoff might not be available is because the OP had already booked the Studio portion of the lockoff. If the OP is able to get the 1BR portion, then it would be possible to put them together. I realize that if the OP's studio or 1BR are from the dedicated inventory this wouldn't be possible, but since room assignments aren't made yet, I think there still might be a decent chance for connecting accomodations.

That is what I'm hoping for but with BCV they have 3 different layouts of 2 brs and I think they assign a "room type" for 2brs right away.

Not to hijack the thread but I was going to pose the same question but re: VWL. I currently have two studios for August and called to switch to a two bedroom but none were available. There are, however, one bedrooms available. Are there both lock-off and dedicated two bedrooms at VWL? I may end up booking a one bedroom and keeping one studio but would hate to use the extra points if by cancelling one of my studios I would have effectively freed up the two bedroom lock-off I'm looking for. I guess I can waitlist for the two bedroom but it seems odd that I'd have to wait for someone else to cancel a studio for it to come through. Am I making sense?

Well here is my update - MS said they can't just make mine a 2br and will have to waitlist. However, whenever I call I will be asking the question can't they just make this a 2br and if I'm successful I will post it!

And the answer will probably always be "No." In each resort there are only so many 2-BR, 1-BR and Studios. There are also dedicated 1-BR and studios. All the "assigned" 2-BR are reserved so all they have in the system are the dedicated 1-BRs and studios.

Does that mean you wouldn't be right next door to each other with a connecting door - No. Just depends on how the room assigner doles out the rooms.

Interesting comments, too, about getting points returned. I would never do that mainly because I reserved two separate rooms and lucked out they were connecting. This is just me, however, and not a judgement on how others see the situation.

VWL has dedicated studios, 1 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms as well as lockoffs. It's possible the 2 studios you have are dedicated, so they could not be connected to a 1 bedroom. It's possible the 1 bedrooms available are dedicated also.

It's not easy for them to just switch around the reservations because it could have implications for someone arriving on a different day. What they can't have happen is someone who has a 2 bedroom lockoff booked and the only studios & 1 bedrooms available are not connected on the day they arrive.

I wonder if the waitlist may be a factor. If there are already people on the waitlist for a 2 bedroom then combining a 1 bedroom and studio that someone has booked separately and changing those rooms to a 2 bedroom could be rather like jumping the waitlist for a 2 bedroom.
