Can I buy flowers in a port and bring them on the ship?

Part of me thinks, why not . . as they will just be thrown in the trash along with any leftover fruit, etc. "Live" things that can't be brought back into the US.

But the other part thinks maybe not? The ship stops in the UK and Ireland and I just thought maybe there would be a little bouquet that I could use to brighten up my cabin.

TOTALLY AWARE I can order flowers to be waiting in a cabin but I don't want to spend that much money.

Thanks!

I don't believe so. We got married on a cruise ship on embarkation day last year and I wasn't even able to bring my own live bouquet on board. Had to be supplied by the cruise line or I could bring a faux bouquet. Something to do with agriculture laws.

Maybe there are different laws for European cruises, but I wouldn't bet on bringing anything "live" onboard. It sounds like a really cute idea though!! :goodvibes

Unfotunately no. Nothing living. Food also has to be prepackaged. It was so sad to pass by the beautiful fresh fruit stands in Europe and know we couldn't bring them back on board. There's only so much you can eat at one time! :rolleyes1

This is what I've always read. But Scott(disneycruiselineblog) was able to bring a freshly made pizza back onboard the Magic when he sailed earlier this summer(Med cruise). Is it ok to bring back food that's not prepackaged in certain ports?

Never mind. It was independent.

No clue. Though...I think people brought key lime pie back on when I was on the Magic and we stopped in Key West...

I googled flowers and cruise ships and got totally different experiences. I guess it depends on the cruise line and the ports. I would order flowers BUT it's at such an exorbitant and I wonder if it's just to protect the vendors OR a real health issue?

With food . . . I know if something is packaged it's OK. Maybe something cooked is OK? I know they don't allow home baked goods but that could be because they might be more 'magic' than allowable?

Just found the following:
Other Considerations - Items Cannot be Taken off the Ship in the United States

The following items cannot be taken off the ship in the United States during the cruise or on debarkation day.

  • U.S Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Port Officers perform agricultural inspections to protect the U.S from potential carriers of animal and plant pests or diseases that could cause serious damage to America's crops, livestock, pets and the environment.
  • Animal products
  • Unsealed food items
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Agriculture and Horticulture products
  • Plants / cut flowers
  • Ship property
Also along those lines (on a Carnival Cruise site) it said food brought on must be prepackaged, sealed, and ready to eat.

Maybe a closed pizza box is considered 'sealed'?

It may have slipped past. Anyway, the sad thing was, he forgot to take it out of his backpack and put it in the fridge so he couldn't even finish it.

I took flowers on board a NCL ship in Seattle for an Alaska cruise. Got them at Pike Place Market.

About a RCCL cruise in April 2017. I'll email DCL and see if I get a response!

"We did a repositioning cruise from Vancouver to LA that stopped in Seattle. Got off really early and bought a nice bouquet at Pike Market; no problems bringing it on board and then going back out again for the day.

However ... when we re-boarded, mid-afternoon, the railings were lined with Pike Market bouquets that had been confiscated by the powers-that-be. Guess they hadn't arrived yet when we re-boarded that morning."

Disney does not allow you to bring flowers on board their ships. The flowers need to be purchased from them. It is a Disney rule, not a US customs rule. If you sail other lines from Port Canaveral, some of them allow you to bring or have delivered (i.e. from Shirley) flowers.

When my wife and I stopped at Key West, she went back onboard after an excursion we did. I walked around and bought a chocolate covered frozen key lime pie. Asked about buying a second one for my wife. They asked what cruise ship and when I told them Disney, they said if it had been any other cruise line it would have been OK. It wasn't allowed by Disney.

Interesting. I know I saw people bringing it back onboard in 2017.
