Can I buy and warm up milk at the parks?

Hi there! We'll be traveling with a one year old who drinks 3% whole milk. Is there anywhere I can buy a small container of whole milk and microwave it (in my bottle) at all 4 of the Disney World parks? Thanks!

I checked with one of the Park Baby Care centers. They do have a microwave to warm up milk or formula. They do not have whole milk, but do have Pediacare and Formula. You can get small containers of milk at the Quick Service locations.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I haven't been to the parks in years, so I have a couple more questions...

Are there several Park Baby Care centers around the parks or only one per park? Also, what is a Quick Service location? Is this like a fast food restaurant? Thanks again

There is only one baby care center perpark, and they can be quite a walk away from wherever you are, and sometimes hard to find, even when you are close to it (Epcot and Animal Kingdom).
Quick Service and Counter Service are used interchangeably for any restaurant that you go to a counter or window or cart and order your food, and carry it away yourself. Table Service restaurants you will usually need reservations for. You check in at the podium, wait to be seated, and have a server come and take your order and bring you your food. You tip them 18% and it can be slow and crowded. Likewise tables at the counter service or quick service restaraunts can be hard to find at peak dining times.
If you are going anytime soon, you should check out allears.com for menus and an idea of prices. Also check easywdw.com for most up-to-date pictures of counter service menus, seating, and helpful tips.
Finally, Writers Stop in Hollywood Studios has a Milk Steamer, which is just heated milk. I asked them when & why people buy it. They said for baby bottles. That is the only place I have seen it on the menu. Whole milk is available many places, but getting it warmed may be a 20 minute hike to the baby center or longer.

Depending on when you are going...if you are going MONTHS from now, you have plenty of time to transition the baby from warm milk to cold milk. Just put 2 or 3 less seconds warming on the bottle each day to make it slightly less warm, then once it is room temp, really cut back on the seconds to leave it kind of chilly.

It really isn't hard to transfer them from needing it heated up to taking it cold from the fridge. Some kids take to it fast because cold milk is just more pleasant than warm milk.

It was easy to get "milk" all over Disney, but not whole milk. We could get 2% usually - and the one place only had skim that day.

If we were at a table service restaurant - we asked for a large cup of HOT water to put the bottle in to warm in up some - but it wasn't terribly effective and not available everywhere. Luckily - the little one was so excited by everything - she was not as fussy about the warm vs. cold factor as much as normal.

If you have time before your trip, it would be easier at Disney if the baby was weaned off the milk having to be warm. If by chance you can get to a cup with a lid and straw (even if you have to help hold) - even better, but that might be pushing it based on the age you mentioned.

And well - if it's still warm milk in a bottle - we did make that happen - but a few times - she did have to wait for it to warm up based on air temp.....

Thanks for the tips. My little guy is almost 11 months and we just recently weaned him from breastfeeding. If I try cool-ish milk, he just won't drink it. We are going in a couple of months and I can try to give him cooler milk, but I am pretty sure it won't happen. I am surprised that bottle warming stations / microwaves aren't more readily available in the parks.

There is very good reason for it. Disney makes a lot of money from selling food. They will not stop people from bringing in their own food (as some parks will) but it is not encouraged.

You could carry a thermos with warm milk. Heat it at your resort's food court if you don't have a microwave in your room.

I would be glad to buy warm milk if they sold it! It sounds like warm whole milk isn't that popular :sad1:

I would say that the bigger reason is just a lack of demand. I have honestly never know anyone who gives their child warm whole milk in a bottle. It's just not very common. Also, most people who give their babies formula use the powdered kind and just mix it with room temperature water so there's no need to heat the bottle.

It's time to start getting him use to it now... If you have a few months it shouldn't be a problem... While you're at it, you might as well work on getting rid of the bottle all together.

Buy small individual containers of ultra pasturized milk in shelf stable packaging. Then don't refridgerate them.

They don't spoil, they won't be cold, and they are small enough to carry a couple at a time. They even come in flavors.:rotfl:

I do Horizon's Organic when I travel because I like milk and these are easy to take in a bag and then cool in the hotel or ice chest as needed. Plus if they do get warm during travel time it won't hurt them. we just re cool them.

I agree with Bookgirl. Get the boxes of shelved milk, or maybe bring a battery operated bottle warmer.
I walked back to the Babycare centers at both DL and CA in California, and it was never a super duper long walk, even from the very back of the park. At DHS, if you're at the Backlot tour and need to go to the BCB that's at the front of the park, I'd say it's a 5 minute walk.

:goodvibes When I weaned my children to bottles/milk, I used hot water from a faucet and let the bottle or cup of milk sit in it for a few minutes until it warmed up. This is actually what is recommended for warming milk instead of a microwave. Bring a plastic cup with you to the parks, poor the milk that you buy in the parks into your baby's bottle or cup and place it in the plastic cup of warm water. It takes a few minutes to warm it depending on how hot the water is. You can also just let the water from the faucet run over the cup/bottle of milk and it will warm it up too. This way you won't have to worry about going to the baby care center every time he is ready for his milk. :thumbsup2
