Can I book a "Safety" and then Cancel?

So here's the scoop. We have 200 points at SSR. We are combining 2010 and 2011 points to take my parents to the World in September 2011. They have never been so we want them to have an awesome trip. We want to stay in a 2 bedroom BCV for 4 nights and then a 2 bedroom AKV for 5 nights. Since I don't own at either resort, is there any way I can book a 9 night stay in one of the treehouse villas in case I can't get either AKV or BCV? Then I have A few nights in a treehouse and a few nights somewhere else cool. Will it even be an issue for September? Are you allowed to book and then switch to other resorts? We are brand new to DVC so any advice is awesome.

Sure. That's what a lot of members do when they want to try another resort, but want to make sure they have something if they can't trade it out at 7 months.

That is the best way to do things. Book something at your home resort at 11 months. Then at 7, call and see if you can switch what you want to the new resorts.

We did that for our upcoming summer trip. Booked 3 nights in a studio and 3 nights in a 1 bedroom at BLT, our home resort.

At 7 months, I called and switched those first 3 studio nights to BCV. It worked out great. At least had they not been available, we would have had something to stay in and would have just put in a wait list.

I too am new to all of this. When I called to book my 1st ressie for next March I asked MS the exact question for our planned Oct 2011 trip. They advised me to book my entire trip (over the course of a few calls due to only being allowed to book a 7 night stay at a time) at my home resort OKW. Then at the 7 month mark I can call and see if a few days either at the beginning or end of my trip would be available at VB. So this is what I plan to do. Good Luck with yours.
