Pick up at Noon on Oct 11 and returning on Oct 17 at 7:00 P.M. I am using the Am-ex contract code and a one free day coupon frp, BJ's that gets me $22.99 off the weekly rental. My total after discount coupon and adding the fees back in is $179.81. I have never paid this much in my life and I am choking on the rate. :sad2:

Forgot to mention that this is for an intermediate (G6 or similar)

Don't know if you can...have you tried checking all the other companies?

Book the rate so that it can't go up on you. Then check back, every ay if you have to, and see if it has gone down. If it does, you can cancel at re-book for no fee.

I don't know what is going on with National's rates. About 3 weeks ago I booked for 9/30 for a week and finally got $129 for the week using my codes and coupons. It has gone up every week since then. Today it was even higher than yesterday!!! So I would book now and you can always cancel if you find something cheaper!

thanks, I already had that part covered. I was hoping someone had a magical combination of coupons and contracts that brought the rates down to reasonable. If rates stay like this, I am going to plan trips going forward around using ME. Hate to do it, but these rates are stinky.

I'm booked for 5 days, using the same contract code and an Entertainment free day coupon for 5 days for $120.76, which equates to around $24/day... Is your rate based on a week or 6 days & additional hours?

I agree about National being higher... I paid much less last year. I'm crossing my fingers that tomorrow's last minute rates help me out a little bit!

Mine is a full week--Wednesday at noon thru the following Tuesday night, and it works out to about $25.70 per day. I am used to paying around $20 per day, so I am not a happy camper. I guess I have to look at it that I feel having my own transportation is worth $25 per day to me.

assume you used EA...do they ask to see the amex card on your way out of lot when you hand them your res info (it's about $10 cheaper so far than what I've got booked)? It's the only card we don't have. Would hate to get tripped up.

we're running into the 1st day of ressie 10/8 falling on columbus day, which is a black out for most codes @ Dollar - have you tried these codes for your dates (our dates are approx. $200 higher than what they're currently charging otherwise):

KSAD
OCVB
KISS2

and corporate code (for additional driver):

oi1054

good luck.

sounds like our rates are very similar.

I can remember last year watching this board, and the rates dropping like crazy. that was FUN.

it could be worse, I guess... like you, we believe it's worth it to have a car.

We've used the AmEx contract code at least twice that I can recall, and I don't ever remember them asking to see the card. Having said that, we have an AmEx and it's set up as our form of payment through the Emerald Club. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

The only thing I know the attendants are sticklers for are coupons - we ALWAYS get asked for our coupons. Never fails.

That's exactly what I was thinking, since they ask for the discount coupon. Funny that although they want to see the DLs they don't ask to see the corresponding CC on file?

I could imagine my DH (famous for telling me: I told you so); if we had to pay rack rate for the SUV due to not actually having amex.:faint:

BTW, @ garage kiosk using QS, Alamo did ask to see my AAA card.

I don't recall if they have ever asked me for my Am-Ex. I have one and usually have it with me, but don't use it for payment to National. I probably wouldn't want to take the chance, especially if the full rate is a lot more than using the Am-ex code would save you.

For November I got 153.76 tax and all included for 6 days for a midsize - G6, etc from National. I used 5125601 in the contract, i used national online coupon of $20 off a week and WWEB in the rate code. Good luck
We are renting from Tuesday until the next Monday.

JC, we have the exact same ressie. Only ours if from Monday 11-20 to Sunday 11-26. Same price / same codes. $153.00

Here is my dumb National question.
If use EA and when leaving the garage, can I hand the attendant at the gate the exact change in cash can they take that as payment? I have a CC but would love to have a CC free trip, is this possible?
TIA

On Tuesday, October 3rd (a week from today) National should be coming out with the Specials for your dates of travel. Their current promo started today and covers September 26-October 10. Maybe your rate will drop! HTH!

Since you seem to know the ins and outs of National sales, do you have an idea when they are going to be doing sales for December 6-15th?
I have thrifty booked but like the EA that national has!

Try 6600330 for your code. The AMEX code seems to bring some pretty hight prices these days. The 6600330 code is for anyone to use.

Any rental 5-7 days is booked at the weekly rental rate. However, you only pay those cute little fees on the days you actually have the car.

I get that same rate for the OP's dates using those codes :).

No, unfortunately not. Check the rules for cash rental on their site. It explains it much better than I can. Besides, they don't charge your card until the rental is over, so, you can pay cash then.
