Can I bank this year's but borrow next years?

OK, I hope this isn't too confusing a question. I would never want to lose points because I failed to bank them in time, so let's say my vacation plans for late in my use year are still unclear. I get to the end of the 100% banking window and decide to not take any chances and bank whatever unused points remain. I realize that these banked points cannot be returned to their original use year.

Now let's say that I learn that I can take a vacation in the second half of my use year (and assuming that ressies are available), can I now borrow from the NEXT use year to "pay" for this use year's vacation? Then use this uy's banked points for whatever I do next year?

I hope that made sense. Thanks as always,
Michael

I think you understand it. Just remember when you borrow, you can not put those points back, and they need to be used by the end of the 'current' use year or they will be lost. And the points you banked , MUST be used in the following UY, they cannot be banked again.

I always end my calls to MS with a request of what points I have and the UY they belong in. Just to make sure MS and my records agree. They do a great job of keeping things correct, but they are human, and mistakes do happen.

Right. We would only borrow if we a) know we have the time off and b) know a ressie is available.

So it seems this "strategy" is a twisted way around losing points that aren't banked. I realize that you open up new potential hazards, such as those you suggested, but it is a good way to cover youself a little bit.

OP, We have done what you mention above - it is especially useful if you have contracts at different resorts and use the 11mo windows

Let's say you have a BCV contract and an SSR contract and your BCV UY points are not enough to cover your vacation points cost at 11mo window and it is the one vacation you will take - borrow BCV points to complete the ressie and bank SSR points to use for the next vacation in the following UY

just remember that if you borrow the points and have to cancel, those remain in your current use year.

for example you are in 2004 use year the month may. you bank your 2004 points, those cannot be used until after may 2005, you can make a ressies but the resiies has to take place after may 2005 and must be used before april 30,2006. cannot be banked again.

now you want to take a vacation you borrow your 2005 points.
now for some reason you cancel those points remain in 2004 use year, must be used by april 30,2005.

be careful you can get really messed up with your points.
