Can I bake shrimp instead of Frying

Yes, just put on a little sauce of some kind.

I have a great recipe, hang on, I'll post it in a sec...

Another good way is to also boil them. It is simple. Place enough water in a pan that will cover the shrimp. Boil the water then put in the shrimp. When it boils again turn them off and pour them into a strainer/drainer you know that thing you put spaghetti in, sorry my mind is shot. :teeth: Then sprinkle on seafood seasoning to taste. We use Old Bay Seasoning.

Garlic Ginger Terriyaki Shrimp
(from Cooking with the Firehouse Chef--a GREAT book with tasty, easy to make meals!)

2 lbs medium shrimp uncooked in shell (I've made this with large shrimp as well)
1/2 cup terriyaki sauce
1/4 cup light soy sauce (it's too salty with the regular soy sauce)
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (I've used the dried stuff in a pinch)
1/4 cup sesame oil
12 garlic cloves, minced (I've used powdered garlic, but it's not as good)
1/2 cup peeled minced ginger (I've used the powder in don't find much difference)
1-2 tsps tabasco sauce to tatse

1. Preheat over to 400

2. Peel the shrimp leaving tail section on. Devein and partially butterfly the shrip. Combine all ingredients except shrimp in mixing bowl, Add the shrimp to mixture and marinade five mionutes.

4. Remove shrimp and stand each one in a casserole, one behind the other. Pour the marinade over the shrimp so it's about 1/4 inch of marinade on the bottom of the pan. (I use a 9x11 glass pyrex pan and it worked great)

5. Cook for 10-13 minutes.

It's actually meant as an appetizer, but I've served it with rice as a dinner.

Just keep in mind that it takes very little time for shrimp to cook. If you overcook, they will be rubbery!

Broiled shrimp is great. I usually skewer it first so it's easier to turn. We like 15-20 size shrimp, dust it well with Old Bay and usually only broil it for 2-4 minutes per side. Good stuff!

Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa/Food TV) made this baked/roasted shrimp on her show the other day and it looked tasty! :sunny:

1/2 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Place the shrimp on a sheet pan and sprinkle with the salt and pepper. Pour the olive oil and juice over the shrimp, and roast in the oven for 5 to 6 minutes.

She served it with her 1000 Island Dressing (don't know if I would like that combination or not :confused3 ), but here is that recipe too:

For the dressing:
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon minced capers
1 teaspoon minced gherkins
1 tablespoon sweet pickles
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Pinch kosher salt
Pinch freshly ground black pepper

For the dressing, place the mayonnaise, ketchup, capers, gherkins, sweet pickles, lemon juice, salt and pepper in a bowl, and stir until blended. Serve with the roasted shrimp.

Are you talking about a prebreaded shrimp that is supposed to be fried? If so then the answer is probably not. We accidentally bought some from Costco once and tried to bake it. The coating was horrible. We threw the box away.

If it's just regular shrimp then you can cook it just about any way you'd like!

I've made the Barefoot Contessa roasted shrimp Seahunt posted lots of times -- it's easy, and more important, wonderful!

(We do cocktail sauce instead of Thousand Island dressing, but I'm sure it's good that way, too.)

I have a feeling that the OP is talking about prebreaded.

If that is the case, then no I doubt it, that is unless the breading has been prebrowned. some brand like Mrs Pauls, VanDeCamps etc do make prebrowned breaded shrimp that can be baked.
