I am trying to compare a lot of packages. We are getting a great price through Carnival Glory. About 1/2 the price of the Disney cruise and with the age of my kids I am considering other cruise lines.

Has anyone had any experience with Carnival and or the ship Glory??? Good or bad I would like to know.

Also RCCL is about $470 more then the Carnival cruise. Mariner of the Sea?? What do you think of this ship??

Thank you again all so much for your thoughts and opinions

I would head over to cruisecritic and ask- they have a whole board on Carnival
I have been on 3 carnival cruises and enjoyed them all. Going to try Disney with the kids this time. My teen daughter went on the last Carnival cruise and enjoyed herself.

My husband and I just returned from the Glory a few weeks ago. We do not have the desire to go back on a Carnival cruise. The service in the dining room was pretty good, but every one else you asked a question it seemed like you were bothering them. I asked one of the people that was working in the buffet dining area for a set of silverware and they looked at me and walked away. The cleanliness of the ship was another thing I was surprised at, it looked like it was 10 years old on the inside. We sat with several people at breakfast that were having the same issues with unfriendly crew members.

We made the best of it since it was our 10 year anniversary and it was just the 2 of us. It made it more difficult since we had already sailed Disney 3 times. We would love to sail Disney again but with the prices it looks like we will try RCL
next year.

After 3 Disney cruises I succumbed to a great last-minute deal on the Carnival Destiny, southern Caribbean from San Juan. Since we were able to use frequent flyer miles for our flights, it was a really cheap week-long vacation that we couldn't pass up. It was fine, but IMHO really not the caliber of Disney.

I don't know the ages of your kids, but the entertainment was more the thong and feathers Vegas-style stuff, which embarrassed my DD (11). We had dinner in the same dining room every night, and one server one night climbed up onto one of her tables and did quite a memorable dance. Most routes from Point A to Point B took you past the casino. I remember the decor as being lots of mirror and smoked glass.

It just didn't have a family-friendly feeling to me.

Having said that, our small inside cabin was plain, but had lots more storage space than the Category 6 we had on Disney. And the best thing of all was the huge medicine cabinet in the (alas) single bathroom.

I would try another line before I would do Carnival again.

I cruised the Glory in March of 2004. When we sailed the ship was immaculate....the service was great in all areas......the food was also awesome.....now with that being said.....the shows were horrible!! I look forward to the shows on dcl at night...after dinner there is nothing to look forward to. Also bingo was nowhere near as fun on the Glory as on Disney. We had a big family trip so the kids did not do the kids clubs....but there really were not that many kids on the ship and it was spring break....lots of older teens....hope this helps some.

I posted a trip report after our Carnival Glory cruise in March of this year. (Sorry, don't know how to cut & paste, maybe someone here can. :earsgirl: ) The price on Carnival was great, but it doesn't compare to the experience your kids will have on DCL. Also, I would avoid it altogether if it's the Eastern caribbean. The immigration procedures for getting off at St. Thomas took half the day (no, I'm not kidding. It took us 2 1/2 hours from the time the ship arrived in port, until the time we got off the ship. We had a total of 3 hours to do Megan's bay and shop.) That horrendous experience alone (and a cruise staff me member to us that was 'routine')was enough to makes us not ever want to sail Carnival again. Yes, we saved money, but didn't get to enjoy enough time in St. Thomas. Also, the layout of the ship is somewhat confusing, as the levels are 'split.' IMHO, I'd wait (if possible) and put more $$ to sail DCL. :earsgirl:
