Can I add dining with discount pin?

CM said I could not add dining to an existing reservation because any changes to the reservation had to be made before the pin expired. Is this true? I can't believe Disney would not want me to add park tickets and dining to a room only reservation.

It depends on the terms of the PIN. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't.

You want to go from a room only res to a WDTC package. And if the pin has expired....
Just wait and see if another offer comes out to switch to.
Either way you will have to cancel your room only res and rebook a WDTC dining package.
So you will not even be able to transfer your funds from one res to another.
But rebook first, and then cancel your room only res. Make sure you get what you want before cancelling your room res.
I think it is much easier in the first place to book a WDTC package than a room only and then switch to a package.

If your looking at package that is tickets and free dining and that is best deal then cancel your other reservation.
OR yes you can add park tickets and dining to room only reservation NOW they will cancel the first room only reservation and refund that and then rebook the new package and you will pay deposit for that.

However you can only have ONE discount at a time so if you get free dining can not use PIN discount UNLESS that pin came with the free dining package and apparently it did not or you would not be wanting to change it.

When calling reservations and you do not like first answer CALL!! CALL!! again. Have been there over 70 times and I book and change a lot of things. I love WDW but it is my money and I do what I have to until I get what we need for the best price. More money to drop in the parks then:yay:

The problem is that if the PIN code used has expired, they won't be able to cancel the room only and rebook the package with the same PIN discount =\

I was trying to pay to add dining and one day tickets to the monster pin. I have the dining pin, but I need only one day park tickets. I will just keep the reservation and see what comes along in the next couple of months.

So this sounds like you've booked a room-only with the monster pin and are now trying to add the free dining pin and a 1 day park ticket? If that's what you're hoping to do, then, no. No, you can't stack discounts.

I was not trying to stack discounts. I tried to pay full price for the dining plan. It seems changes can't be made to the reservation after the pin expires.

Then I misunderstood your previous post - sorry. That really sounds strange that Disney would NOT let you give them more money! :confused3 Have you talked to several CM's? Is there a possibility of adding dining at check-in? I hope it works out for you!

It actually isn't that strange at all. Disney has two separate reservation types: room-only and package. You can make changes from room-only to a different room-only (changing resorts, categories, dates, etc.). You can make changes from package to package (changing resorts, adding additional tickets, changing dining plan, etc.).

However, you cannot change from a room-only reservation to a package. Those will be two different reservations. The package is booked and the room-only cancelled. It's not a change but a new reservation. Your deposit on room-only cannot be transferred to the package. It is refunded but you must put on a new deposit for the package.

If the PIN has expired, there is no way for the computer now to give you the PIN discount on the new package.

And you can't add dining at check-in; it needs to be added at least 72 hours before arrival.

Update. I called and explained to the CM that I had a room reservation with an expired pin that I wanted to change to a package. I asked the CM to check with Guest Services to see if it could be done. It can! Guest services handled everything. I now have a package with dining and tickets and 40% off the room.

On a slightly different note, if I booked a package last year with a room discount, can I switch to room-only reservation and keep the discount?

Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread, OP!

Maybe. When you call Disney, be sure and ask the CM to check with Guest Services. The first CM said that she worked with reservations everyday and what I wanted could not be done. I asked her to talk to Guest Services and she would not. The second CM I called talked to Guest Services for me, and Guest Services changed the reservation.

You can't add park tickets and dining to a room only reservation. You must convert the reservation into a package. And if the discount you have is not applicable to packages, you can't do the conversion and keep the discount.

Usually to change a room only to a package the reservation would have to be cancelled and rebooked but there are a number of recent references to finding a CM or supervisor or someone who can do an override and simply convert a room only to a package. But as listed here, sometimes you have to fight to access someone who can do the override (or WILL do it).

This is what is going on for you!

I'm sorry if I was not clear earlier. Guest Services cancelled the room only and booked the package keeping the discount on the room portion. Since the pin had expired it took Guest Services to do this. I assume the original pin allowed for packages as well as room only.
