Can I add an additional driver at a different location?

My husband and I are arriving at different times for our trip in November. I usually try to rent from Alamo, which gives me a free additional driver (Alamo Insiders). If I understand policy correctly, than I will not be able to add my DH to the reservation without him physically there when I pick up the car (am I right about that? does he have to be physically present?)
Can I go to the Alamo location at the Swan and Dolphin once he gets there to add him? or would I have to go back to the airport?

Am I over complicating things?

The rules state that you spouse(or additional driver) will need to be with you and that you have to add at the original rental location, however, many renters have said they were able to add at a different location with the spouse (or additional driver) present.
