Can guests use SAB?

Where most resorts have a quiet pool and a themed pool, AKL only has the one pool.

don't forget that SAB is use by 3 resorts. BC, YC, and BCV:goodvibes

Is the policy different at BCV in terms of having guests swim with you? WHen we were at SSR, I called the front desk with the same question - can my sister and kids swim with us as guests, and they said sure, no problem, just have them check in at the gate...

Maybe bcs SAB is so popular?
I don't think I've seen an official Disney policy on this issue but I would suspect there is one and also suspect it says you must be a registered guest at that resort to use the pool with the exception of legal PH by DVC members. Unfortunately the front desk doesn't know about this issue and usually gives an off the cuff answer that is not based in fact. That's part of the problem with PH in general, that you're supposed to call the front desk at the destination resort prior for an OK.

I'd agree with adding them to the reservation. The admonition about the DDP is appropriate but could work to their advantage if they want to utilize that option.

SAB staff definitely checks room keys. We were the ONLY ones in the pool over Thanksgiving during that cold spell. They checked our keys (4), gave us all wristbands, and then watched us freeze :goodvibes .

I was there last summer and really don't remember anyone looking at my room card that closely. I always had it out and available. But there is no picture on your card and there is nothing to stop you from getting your wrist bands and passing your card off to someone else, so that they can get wrist bands from another CM. There are several entrances to the pool. Where there is a will there is a way.

You know, I am not looking to cheat or anything...or take advantage of any system. We are really not that kind of people...I would never cheat with the room card or add them just so they can swim.

But, now that I think about it, what would really would be wrong to invite my sis and her 3 little kids to spend 2 - 3 hours swimming with us as guests at a pool. Wouldn't most other time shares allow guests? Even like our athletic club - you get two guest passes a year?

We pay a lot of dues, etc...It would kind of fun to show off our beautiful DVC to them. Not to mention, we never have a car, so visiting them isn't really our cup of tea.

But, I will say every time we swim at SSR, OKW & VWL - the only resorts we have gone to, its just not that crowded. Maybe SAB gets really really crowded?

Plus - I don't like having to ask the lifeguard. As I said, we have always been told to call the front desk of whichever resort we want to poolhop too. Since we don't have a car, I too would be pretty frosted if we called the front desk of the resort we want to visit, got the go ahead, shlepped over there, and were turned down by the lifeguard!

Its not like there is any way to get hold of a life guard and ask them...Or is there?

I think with SAB, it's just a capacity control issue. We USED to pool hop all the time there until they added BCV. Then the put the fence along SAB, and it got difficult to get in there.

At resorts like OKW and SSR, it's just not the issue it is at SAB.

But having guests join us is one of the reasons we: NEVER GET THE DDP! and OFTEN GET A 2-BEDROOM FOR the 3 of us. That way, we have five extra keys to use.

Yes, SAB gets REALLY crowded. That's why it's one of the few places that DVC members are not allowed to pool hop. It's not even a case of call ahead to see if it's okay. At SAB it is not allowed. At the other pools, (except for the AK pool), you call ahead to check.

You aren't breaking rules to put your sister's and kids names on your reservation if you are within the limits of the room capacity. In that case, you paid for (and there is capacity for) "X" number of people. The problem is that when BC/YC were built there was no thought of a DVC at those resorts. Even before BCV, that pool could get pretty crowded - it's almost like a waterpark instead of a pool, and word gets around thanks to books and the Internet. Once BCV was built, that was a lot of guests straining one pool. It's definitely at capacity. Your sis and 3 kids may not seem like a strain on the pool, but if even half the guests at BCV added another 4 people into the crowd at the pool, it would be too crowded to sit down or even use the pool in any comfort.

Well, that answers the question then...that it gets so crowded, which is fine. I absolutely agree if capacity is an issue, it should only be for paying guests.

We will be there the day b4 Easter - I bet that will be a crowded time.

Still, tho I wonder - would it really be possible for the front desk to say, "sure come by and swim" (at another resort) and then have a lifegaurd say no?

We really love theOKW pool & Olivias. ...I would hate to be kicked out there...

But it sounds like you do plan to cheat the system and try to bring them anyway? Why???? You have been told the rules, you know the rules, so why break the rules? Don't they apply to you???

I'm sorry, but I'm thinking of Dumbo's meltdown thread right about now.

Calm down Deb. I am not cheating. I was not clear of the rules, and my exact question was whether having guests count as pool hopping. Since it does, there is no issue. They can't come.

I am sure that was written in the paperwork we signed 5 years ago, and I am sure I signed it, and I am sure my guide explained it - or not.

In math terms - does poolhopping = having guests at SAB? Yes. Not much else to say.
