Can family members have their own MDE and also remain in mine?

I currently have 11 family members (3 different families) all in my MDE account. I am the early bird making ADRs so it's easier for me to have all members. But for an upcoming November trip, I'd like each family to have their own account for mobile ordering and managing their own Genie+ and LL. Is it possible to do this but leave all family members in my own account as well?

You won't need to leave the family members in your account once they create their own MDE accounts. You will still be able to make ADR's, make park reservations and buy LL and Genie+ for them as long as you are connected as family and friends that share all activities.

We travel to Disney with my sister all the time and she has her own account. I can do all of the planning and scheduling for her and she can do it for me. :)

How do we stay connected as family and friends in MDE? Will all their names still appear in my MDE - otherwise how could I make ADRs for them? And is there some way I should invite them from my account to create their own? We haven't been since a brief visit in Jan 2020 to MK and I feel like I will never learn what I know to know before November - ugh so overwhelming and complicated now.

Once they create their own MDE, you would connect to them using the Family & Friends list. The primary way to connect is to select update for the profile you manage and then enter the email they used to create their own account. If they are physically with you, there is also an option to scan a link (QR) code.

Once a family member makes their own MDE account you, or they, will be able to send a connect request via the website. We just did this for my sister-in-law, who will be joining us for the first time. She had to create her account and then let us know what her email address was that she used for her MDE account. There is a place in your MDE account where you can "Add a guest". It will give you a list of options to connect with this guest. An email is sent and the recipient has to accept the guest request. Make sure they choose "All shared plans" when setting it up.

One thing that might happen is that they won't be able to use the same profile name as you created for them. For example, my sister added my sister-in-law to her MDE account and resort room reservation before my sister-in-law created her MDE account. Once my sister-in-law had her own account, my sister had to go back to her MDE account and take the wrong one off her reservation.

Ok thanks. I want to give them step by step instructions....so one person in each family should create an account that the parents can share (they both have kids under 12). They will enter their family members in their account. Then I can connect to both of their family accounts using the email they created to create their own. We won't physically be together. That sounds right? Then when they buy park tickets they can add to their account but I can still make ADRs for all if I'm understanding it.

Once everyone has their own accounts and you are connected, you can try to make a dining reservation as a test to see if you can see them all from your account. You just have to try and make a reservation for any available date and restaurant. If you can see their names in the list of guests, then you know that you are connected. Then you can cancel the dining reservation after you know that everything is set up properly. If you can't see their names when trying to make a dining reservation then you need to get that fixed.

Thanks - great idea! I'll start with my husband and have him set up his own account and then link it to mine to make sure I have the process correct.

And if things don’t go well, you can call WDW IT at (407) 939-4357. They’re very helpful!

PS When you connect to the parent who “owns” each family’s MDE account, the other family members won’t automatically connect to your MDE. You need to go through the same Update Guest process with each person. You’ll essentially send an email to the managing adult, asking them to give you permission to connect with each family member in their F&F list - a request for each person. And make sure they give you permission to share, plan and view each person’s photos as well.

If certain family members are connected in order to make ADRs sometimes including them, do they have to see every future trip reservation, ADR etc they are NOT included in and I see their future plans?

It gets very confusing and one time I accidentally canceled a plan they made and they accidentally cancelled one of mine because we could see each others (even tho not going together at same time) and it got confusing.

This is what I'm afraid of. It just may not be worth it for a 3-day park visit. But I wanted them to be able to get (and pay for) their own mobile orders, lightning lanes etc.

I've never been able to cancel an ADR made by my husband, only remove myself from the reservation.

But that being said there's a toggle between share all plans and share only the plans we share or something like that. That should prevent you from seeing plans where you have nothing in common.

I also get tired of certain others knowing the numerous trips I have planned and question why I’d be going back so soon etc etc.

I’m going to see how to differentiate exact information on when they are actually coming wit me and those trips they are not included.

Also, anyone under 18 cannot add a payment method to their own MDE account. They can’t even charge back to the room.

I’m not sure if I’m interpreting correctly but will say Disney started allowing charging privileges to my DD’s MB, when I approved,at about the age of 10. She’s only on my MDE due to her age.

She is very responsible so I granted her access to charge.

A funny story. I had looked at a certain umbrella in Japan (pattern appears when wet) for a number of trips but never bought it. Last trip I looked again and she asked which colour I liked best. I told her and she picked it up saying, ‘You've wanted this a long time so I’m buying it for you for your birthday!’ I quickly told her she didn’t have to spend so much of her hard earned Disney savings on me!’ She smiled, flashed me her MB and said, ‘I’m not! You are!!’ 🤣

We laugh and talked about that story as recently as last night!! I also think of it and smile each time I open that umbrella!! 💕

Just a note, you don't need to be connected to anyone in MDE to make an ADR that includes them. You don't need to name anyone other than the lead guest.

So I could make an ADR for 8 people, and the only person I specifically link in MDE can be me. The rest can just say "Guest 1", "Guest 2", etc.

When our son was on my MDE account, he could charge on his MB without any issues. Once I gave him his own MDE, he could no longer charge to his MB. A credit/debit card needs to be on file. If you are under 18, MDE will not allow you to add a form of payment. He had to use his own money or debit card. I tried to see if he could use one of my MB with my passcode, but it wasn’t working. It could have been that the MB got deactivated; it was an older one.

There is some misinformation here.

Using a MagicBand to charge purchases does not require a form of payment linked in MDE. Purchases charged with a MagicBand do not go to a card on file, they are added to a Disney resort folio, and charged to the card on file with that reservation, unless other arrangements are made. So all guests on a reservation can charge purchases to the room. That includes children, as long as the parent has allowed charging through the front desk at the resort, whether they have their own MDE account or not.

A guest under age 18 cannot purchase Genie+ or ILL, but that has nothing to do with charging purchases with a MagicBand.
