Can Expedition Everest be ridden ...

I'm a slow poke. I estimate getting to AK around 9:30 or later. If I'm keeping a 14:30 pace would I be able to hop the line and ride? Do the park visitors really let you forward? I would love to be able to get to the finish line and tell my family I did it, but I don't want it to put me too close to the balloon ladies.

At your pace, if you are in one of the last two waves, you may be able to ride. If you decide to hop on, your bib is kind of like a Fast Pass and you get to bypass most of the line. I would urge a little caution since half the race remains and you are only half way. The heat can drain you quickly

I honestly hadn't even thought about the possibility of runners hopping on rides during the middle of the race! This is both intriguing and hilarious! Do lots of runners actually do this?

Generally the EE was the only ride that folks have hopped out of the race to ride. It was easier to ride in the previous course version as it was later in the day (mile 17 vs 13 this year) and the park was open. No other ride is really close enough to hop during the race.

Thanks for the response! That's really neat- it must be awesome to say that you've done that.
Best of luck to everyone who attempts this mission!

I rode it last year. I was there just after 9 and had to walk through the whole line (there weren't many people in line yet, but still had to go through the "yeti museum" and all). The people in line were very amused and let me ride in the front. It was so fun and well worth it, but does take time between the line, waiting on the cars, riding, and navigating out of the shop.

That's so cool that you were able to do that. Question, couldn't you just go through the single rider line? That was my plan if it's open.

Just a further thing to think about, especially if you are pushed for time. The ride can break down at any time and if the issue is problematic enough, you may get stuck on the ride for a while, near 30 minutes in addition to what you waited in line, in the load station. There is quite a risk involved in doing this, just take it into consideration, it would be horrible if anyone got swept cause they were on EE and it went down hard.

Its sounds like fun and a great story to tell...since this is my first marathon, I wouldn't even consider doing that. Unless I was running a six minuet mile and had spare time...maybe...I just wouldn't want to add on another twenty or thirty minuets to this race...its really long enough.

However good luck to those who do! It certainly would make a great story...I ran through AK, rode a rollar coaster, then got back in the race....

I did it and it was so much fun. My GPS was a little wonky because I forgot to pause. Your bib does act like a FP. a fellow runner and I got on, chatted during the ride and ran off afterward. I wish I had cash because I would have gotten the ride pic. LOL

Happened to my daughter. Not during a race, but she was stuck on it for a long time until finally they all had to get out and walk down. They were stuck at the top where it looks like the tracks break.

DW rode it with another runner as well. She figured that, since she was there, and since it was open, she might as well ride it. I thought about leaving the course to go ride Mission Space, but figured that would be cruel to anyone who had to sit in that seat after me. :crazy2:

LOL. I wanted to go for ToT but it was way off course and I knew I was running behind at that point.

I really want to ride EE in January for the marathon. I'll have to wait and see how I am feeling and the lines and temp and all that. Its one of my favorite rides at WDW so it'd be really cool to get it in as a break for the race.

I was doing a 14:30 pace and passed Everest around 8:50am. While the park wasn't open, they were allowing runners to ride. :) I actually regret not getting on...but I'm not sure at that time it would have been good for my sanity. I'm not sure I would have been able to get off!

I know they let people do it, but I'd be afraid that if I sat down after running that far I wouldn't get back up! Probably better to keep moving :rotfl:
