DS is making DIL move out and she was wondering if she can file married filing separately. I checked the 1040EZ book for her but didn't find it anywhere.

Is there such a thing?

I'm not happy with DS......

I had friends who filed seperately due to a dishonarable discharge from the navy and the government taking his tax returns until something was paid off (he had a major panic attack right before the ship was to leave and would NOT go back). This was almost 20 years ago, so I can't say for sure if it is still possible.

I think you can, I did about 15 years ago, during a divorce. It made me very mad because you do pay a higher tax, I think it was even higher than a single person? good luck, it was not any fun for me:sad2:

When I was separated/divorcing my first husband, we filed married/separately.

You can but you both will pay higher taxes. If they lived together the majority of last year, I would file 1 last tax return together to save $$.

Thank you everyone for your help. This is all new to all of us. DS finally gave DH his password so that we could print his W-2 so that now DIL and DS can file one last time married and jointly.
