My kids are 12 and 14 and will be going to The Edge (I assume) together. Can you tell me about the activities that they do there just to be able to get my kids excited? My daughter is my social butterfly so I'm sure she'll be fine! My son, the older one, can be a bit of a pain! Thanks!

We sailed on the Dream (Feb 2022). DS (13) said that they had a lot of video game tournaments (Mario Kart was a popular one). They also had movies, ping pong contests, drawing/crafts, dance party and movies. There could be more but those are the things that DS mentioned. Hope that helps.

Social butterflies have a tendency to do very well in Edge - which then becomes more of a meeting point, spend some time, and then roam around the ship with friends. For the more "on your own", yes video games on your own, trivia style games/contests, board games/video games challenges, crafts and looks like they might be back at "taking over" an area of the ship... For example, on the Wish, they are taking over the new Hero Zone area for an hour or so. Movie nights usually at least once... and more. On longer sailing (over 7 nights), you may have talent shows.

Here's a pic of the schedule for embarkation day on the Wonder 7/11. I've read that it's important to attend ice breakers because that's where the friend groups are formed but there just weren't a ton of kids on the cruise (compared to the fantasy and dream sailings we've been on) so my kids stuck together.

Sometimes it's hard to determine if this age group is having fun but late at night we saw edge invade vibe and vice versa. They were definitely having a blast then.

Well that’s disappointing. Why would they schedule ice breakers for the middle of dinner?

Thank you everyone! We'll be on the Fantasy in two weeks. I think my son will be fine as long as he's with his sister. They have always gotten along really well and they love to do activities together. I think a lot of these will make him happy too!

I think that’s common for Edge on the other ships as well. I agree it’s frustrating if your family has late dining. Maybe they look at how many 11-14’s are scheduled for each dinner seating and know most are early? I also suspect more families preferred doing the ice breakers earlier for the younger of that group.

The 14-yr-old also has the option of Vibe if he’d prefer. Since his sister is the social butterfly and likely to make a group of girl friends, they aren’t going to be “together” even if they arrive together. I suggest you also take him to check Vibe the first afternoon.

Thanks for this information!

We have a 14 yo son and a 10 yo daughter. Our son did Edge on our first cruise and liked it just fine. One of the friends he made last Oct actually came for a visit here in Minnesota this Summer!

Our son is high functioning ASD. He can have a difficult time making friends - but Disney cruises are the exception. He has since gone to Vibe on subsequent cruises and prefers the older kid things they do there. Our 10 yo daughter toggled between Oceaneer and Edge - but she’s a social butterfly and had a lot more fun in Edge.

Our kids had so much fun in fact, we were asked if they could skip dinner on more than one occasion! On our Spring Break cruise our son met his girlfriend (she lives in Michigan) and on our Memorial Weekend cruise there was a friend group of 16 kids he hung with all weekend. Our daughter made many friends in Edge and she’ll easily find her niche. Our kids enjoyed the video games, the Hero/Villian competitions, dance parties, watching the fireworks with friends on board, etc. Our son loved that on the Fantasy, Vibe has a private deck & swim area just for teens. He loved all of the games and the comedian and magician they had there as well.

It’s amazing the freedom your kids can have on the ship, this allows you to engage in some adult fun on board. Def loved seeing the fireworks at sea from the top deck of the Fantasy. The adult only pool area on that deck has shade and is a wonderful place to sit and read. For less a less busy option, deck four is great for relaxing and there aren’t typically a lot of people (other than walkers and runners or some shuffleboard players from time to time).

Biggest piece of advice: ATTEND THE OPEN HOUSES! Help your kids navigate to the club(s) they will be going to. The cast members/counselors are great at engaging the kids. They will have an amazing time regardless of the club they choose - but I’d encourage them to enjoy different clubs if you can - gives them the opportunity to meet new people and makes friends they never knew they’d love so much!
