Can anyone tell me about Cap May?

I have thought about trying Cape May (the clam bake) the last few trips and have never tried it. Already trying to think about where we would like to eat this year and I thought I would ask all of you what you think. Is the food good? Is it worth the trip out of the park? That is one thing this year we are taking into consideration, the time it takes us to get to a dinner from out of the parks. We are not a family of picky eaters, my husband and I like seafood more than our girls but they are willing to try anything. Thanks for your help.

I really enjoyed our dinner at Cape May last summer but I enjoy seafood. My hubby and son don't eat seafood but they still found plenty to eat. I am not sure that I would leave the park to eat there specifically, especially with all the wonderful places to eat in EPCOT.

It is good, but not great. The salads, seafood and desserts are the best parts, but all the seafood they serve has been frozen so if you really "know seafood" you may be disappointed. I go there about once a year, so no real complaints.

We love Cape May, its a must do on our trips! We've always had great service & a great meal everytime we have gone!

:thumbsup2 Second this!! Have NEVER been disappointed and to us better than anything in Epcot. It's just a short walk through International Gateway near France in Epcot. We love the clam chowder and crab legs, desserts, well everything

It is certainly not the best seafood on Disney property, but certainly the most filing. As somebody said, it is previously frozen. If quality is what you are after - Coral Reef, Flying Fish or Fulton's will all treat you well. Another problem with the buffet setting is things tend to sit, not get rotated and become over-cooked.

Not the best? Your opinion only, and I have mine from experience as well as others do :confused3 Have you been to Cape May, seen things sit, get rotated, or over-cooked? I haven't - the dishes tend to empty so fast, no chance of that! The three you named are not always quality, we have experienced that also - each person needs to try it themselves - all have opinions.

It is indeed my opinion, but thank you for clearing that up.

I most certainly have seen product not get rotated at the buffet. In fact, I have stood right in front of the crab legs and watched a Culinary Cast Member pile new on top of old. It's not the first time I've seen it, I'm sure it will not be the last. I have a family member that enjoys Cape May, and as we live around the corner, tend to eat there once every other week.

And no, the other three are not always quality, but such is the plight of a Disney Restaurant. All good seafood should be fresh, so I would rather take my chances with a menu than a buffet line.

But again, just my opinion.

We LOVE it. the food in our opinions is far better than most DIsney run eateries. I don't eat seafood but I'm always well taken care of w/ other stuff. Call me weird too but I love the mac and cheese in the kids area. OH, and the buttery garlic rolls w/ mashed potatoes and the beef. MMMMMM My hubby is a seafood lover. He likes it well enough to request going there. :thumbsup2 The crab was done well and not rubbery or mushy, the clams though hadn't been cleaned well enough as he said they had a lot of grain to them. This was last Saturday. It might have just been a batch that needed a little more attention. It wasn't enough to taint his view of the place. We both still LOVE it. And if you can get Barbi as a server, you'll find her one of the most delightful CMs you'll ever meet! EVER! It's one of the only places we truly enjoy at WDW anymore. Honestly! We seek out the better food now. I'm tired of paying premium for chuck quality food.

EDIT: I just asked hubby about the clams/oysters (whatever they were LOL) again. He said it as only just that one that was like eating a beach w/ the sand. He want back and got more and they were fine. He said it can be hard to clean the little ones like that if they don't open enough and you accidentally miss one. He said the rest were great.

As you can see from my Sig... BC has been our "resort of choice" the last 4 visits...

We've eaten at Cape May every time.... out of convenience of staying at BC....

Albeit... this was prior to Crab legs at BC's Cape May....

I thought the value was good... all our picky "then-teens" found something to eat and everyone filled up...

However I would not call Cape May a "Destination" meal... that is... I would NOT go there if I were not staying at BC... there are much better options next door at Epcot... and at other locations.....

I'm the lone person on the DIS that was satisfied with H&V buffet at DHS... and really that buffet is quite similar to Cape May (other than the mussels and the crab legs).

Same Carved Roast, bbq ribs, mashed potatoes, salads, etc.

SO overall I recommend it if it is convenient for you... if not.. then choose a better option in Epcot, Boardwalk or vicinity...

I hope you have a magical visit !

100% Agreed on kids Mac and Cheese. It's actually sickening how much I love it.

I know! I was totally not sure what I'd think but I like mac and cheese so I decided to give it a whirl and I actually cleaned it off of my plate before I touched ANYTHING else. :rotfl:

We went for the first time in November and we really enjoyed it. I thought the seafood and especially the crab legs were great! I would go back again.

It is always my first stop at any buffet. Chef Mickey's and Boma are especially good. It's good to know I'm not alone.

Is the Chef M's mac and cheese just like it? I might actually try the place again if it is. ;) I could live on a plate of that.

This is one of my family's favorite meals.
My big brother who lives in Orlando joins us and we have a wonderful meal together and then sit out back and catch up.
It's not that far from Epcot, we take the boat over, it's a nice enjoyable/relaxing ride.
The food is wonderful. I Love the seafood, garlic rolls and YES- the mac and cheese, my DH says there flank steak is the best he's ever had, and even my picky DS leaves there happy and with a full belly.
We would recommend.

Another S. LA gal here, but I would definitely go "out of my way" for Cape May and do ;) But one thing I would NOT do is compare it in any way to H&V :sad1: My DH & I don't care for anything in Epcot as much as Cape May - even if we went for the clam chowder, crab legs alone. I grew up around good seafood also, and even though I would take the better LA restaurants over CM, we still think it's the best there :goodvibes All just personal preference of course, everyone needs to try it for themselves :)

I only ate here once, but I thought it was fantastic. Of all the seafood buffets I have been to in my life, the only ones I liked better were the buffet at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and Captain George's in Williamsburg, Va. Both had a slightly larger variety of seafood. Also in the case of Captain George's the crab legs and clams were literally pulled out of the water less than 20 miles away and probably the day before.

However, as far as the sides go, Cape May has the other two buffets I mentioned beat. They were tasty, we'll varied and very light. I wish I could remember all the sides and salads, but none of them were overly filling, so in the end you can eat more seafood. I left feeling very full, but not overly so. I would highly recommend Cape May.

I think it is actually better. Creamier and "cheesier". I'm not a huge fan of Chef Mickey's otherwise, but that more than makes up for it.

I feel like we should not be talking about the mac like it's haute cuisine. It just feels so right.
