DH and I were thinking of going to Venice for a long weekend to celebrate our 5th Wedding anniversary in October. Has anyone ever been and can anyone recommend a good value hotel in Venice. We don't want to be too extravagant as we are saving up for a big Disney trip in 2008. Any info about Venice and any must sees and must dos are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We stayed in a hotel in May that I thought was a good price for the excellent location -

Albergo Firenze
Nothing fancy, but clean and friendly. Small rooms, but I gather that applies pretty much everywhere in Venice! Buffet breakfast was fine, if unexciting (although nothing like the US breakfast buffets ;) )

Have also stayed in Hotel Saturnia This was more expensive, but a great location again :thumbsup2

If you want some more info (about hotels / airport transfers / tours, etc.), I'd be happy to help if I can :)

make sure you check out the location on a map as a lot of tour operators have hotels in lido de jeselo, which is outside venice, you would then need to take a water taxi to vencie itself..on the plus side these hotels are cheaper.:thumbsup2

Whatever you decide, have a fab time:banana:

Ciprianis pretty good ;)

or most of them based around St Marks square.

We stayed at the Villa Parco Hotel which is situated 1km from the main Lido boat station providing easy access to St. Marks Square.

My Mom and I stayed in the lovely Hotel Violino d'Oro and we just loved it :goodvibes !

The hotel is beautiful and just about 4 minutes walk from San Marco but still away from the madness of that area. The staff were just lovely and they have a very good breakfast in a lovely little room. Now regarding price for us it was quite pricey since my Mom uses a wheelchair and we needed the double superior room, but that room overlooked the canal with the gondolas and we loved it. The other rooms are just as nicely done up from what I've read on trip advisor dot com. We also hired a private boat to take us to the hotel landing and the ride over from the airport in that little motorboat was one of the highlights of my life, gosh the surroundings were just beautiful!

Sorry that was more info then you requested :). Have fun whatever you decide!
