Can anyone recommend a Home Inventory App for Android?

On my list of things to do this year is a Home Inventory (something needed if there was a fire or flood, for example). Has anyone used an App for this and been happy with it? I'm saying for Android simply because my phone with the easiest camera to use is an Android, so I figure that would be faster than taking photos and uploading them to a regular software program. But open to suggestions.

Thanks!

My concern is will insurance accept a list instead of photos?
We just took digital pictures of everything of value and photos showing all 4 sides of every room and put the memory card in our safe deposit box at the bank.

Agreed, I think photos would be important - plus, frankly it's hard to recall everything in even one closet or drawer! I had a neighbor with a fire and the insurance company required a ton of info on every single thing they requested to be covered. I think putting it on a USB or something off site is smart, I'm a bit creeped out by uploading to the Cloud, but that ship probably already sailed since everything on my computer and phone is now uploaded Somewhere :(

My niece and her husband had a major fire in their house and photos were critical. She is an interior designer, and he build the house himself, so there were a lot of custom features and materials used. In the end, the insurance company hired him as the contractor to rebuild his own house.

I believe that Tink is looking for an app that will automatically integrate photos with text about an item, hence her remark about the phone's camera being able to integrate with a home inventory app. She very much does want photos, not just a list.

Tink, I haven't looked for such a program but it sounds like a great idea! As you say, easier than uploading the photos to a separate software program. I just Googled and found some recommendations. Since I'm not familiar with the sites that offer those opinions and therefore can't speak to their authority, I won't cite them here, but I'm certainly going to read through them.

We use Keep Notes for sharing shopping lists, travel ideas, etc. I checked and it has a photo capability with the ability to label the image, etc.

The concern is, will that app still be accessible when it is needed? How many of us have fallen victim to a discontinued app that disappears along with everything you had stored in it.

Good point. A built-in system app that can integrate photos and text (such as Notes on iOS devices) might be safer.

Why not just take photos of each room? Then you aren't dependent on some app/website that may no longer be in business. Probably also depends on what type of insurance coverage you have. If you have individual items of great value (i.e. pricey antiques, collectables, etc.), I suspect you need to specifically itemize those in your policy. Doubt your insurance company cares what type of sofa/chairs/TV you have which are things normally found in the typical home. I think it is more likely you get blanket coverage for the 'contents' of your home in the event of a fire or some sort of natural disaster.

At the risk of sounding like a hoarder - just getting everything in a photo would be a full day project. But watching the fires in Los Angeles (we are in San Diego), I know a LOT of people are wishing they'd taken more photos and uploaded or stored them with someone offsite. And frankly, any photos probably are more helpful than no photos considering I think you need to provide an itemized list to the insurance company, but I really don't know and am willing to guess it depends on the company and state.

my carrier says photos are ideal but individual photos of each and everything are not needed-a photo of the living room/a photo of the open coat closet/a photo of the kitchen/each cabinet door & drawer...where lists come in use are the things you would be hard pressed to remember. you tend to know what small appliances you had, pots and pans but could you name every book/blu-ray/video game? these things should be listed (I use a simple spreadsheet). dh's modest comic book collection we have a list on as well (in addition to a photo of the full long boxes). a neighbor had a heck of a time trying to remember every odd and end tool in his shop when it burned down but it was allot. I can recite what is roughly in every room of my house but it's the stuff in the bookcases/china hutch/closets...I would be hard pressed to detail accuratly.

absolutly-we keep a copy of everything in a safety deposit box at the bank INCLUDING all the receipts for major improvements/appliances b/c the house we bought is not the house we live in now-it has nicer finishes and improvements. my insurance is aware of it and covers it but I want proof of just what level of improvements we put in (and their original cost if they question the replacement cost).
