Can anyone help with this military ticket question?

I did read the sticky but since I'm not familiar with military tickets and/or bases, I need some help.

We will be travelling with another family who's daughter is in the military stationed in South Korea. They are wanting to get the Stars and Stripes tickets but the daughter will not be home until right before the trip. I was hoping to find a way to get the tickets earlier to be able to pre-book FP+s since we will be going in June. Since it is her parents that are in the states, I haven't seen anything saying they could get the tickets. Can the daughter get them in Korea?

Thanks to anyone that can help. I am soon going to be helping another military family plan a trip but the dad is retired and I assume will be easier to get tickets. Any other great tips for military families anyone knows that I can pass on to them would be great. Thanks again!!

The Stars and Stripes tickets can only be purchased in person at Shades of Green.

If there is an ITT office at the base in Korea, and they have the tickets there she can buy them. Otherwise, you're out of luck. No one else can buy them for her.

The PP is correct that Stars and Stripes tickets are only available at Shades of Green. Most base MWRs do have regular MYW tickets for sale at a discount that the daughter could purchase ahead of time, though. The same is true for the Armed Forces Salute tickets (assuming the daughter will be on the trip with them to activate those). She should be able to purchase those at her base MWR prior to the trip.

Absolutely false....it can be purchased at the base ITT office as well.

Not the specific Stars and Stripes tickets that the OP referred to. The Armed Forces Salute tickets are something separate, and you are right that those can be purchased at the base MWR/ITT. It is just the MYW Stars & Stripes tickets that can only be bought at Shades of Green

The military member or spouse MUST be present at the park to activate the tickets. You only get a voucher at the military ticket office. It is not an actual ticket - as of 2/15/14...we bought ours yesterday. If someone has a dependent I'D it might work but you should verify.

I confused the Stars and Stripes tickets with military salute. I just looked up the Stars and Stripes tickets, they actually cost more than buying the regular tickets at the base. Why would you spend more?

I've purchased both military salute and regular park tickets many times at my ITT office and never received a voucher. I have always been give the actual ticket. I bought 7 day park hoppers 3 weeks ago and have them linked to MDE. I guess it depends on your ITT office, mine has tickets.

This is only true for the Armed Forces Salute tickets.

The MYW Stars & Stripes tickets that you purchase at Shades of Green are MYW tickets and do not need any activation.

The regular MYW tickets that are sold for a discount at base MWR offices also do not require activation prior to use.

Ok, I not sure what the name of the kind of tickets are. Sorry for the confusion!! They were looking to get the 4 day tickets that are $169 (I think). The daughter would be travelling with us.

OK - those are the Armed Forces Salute tickets, and the daughter should be able to purchase them at her base MWR. If her base MWR does not sell them for some reason (I'm not sure if all OCONUS bases stock them), they should at the least be able to order them for her.

As a last resort, if the base MWR in S. Korea doesn't have them, she may be able to call a stateside base and order them over the phone and have them shipped to her. I did this once in ID when our base didn't have the tickets. I called the base in Utah and ordered/paid for them and they sent them to me.

The daughter will need to be present to activate the tickets before you enter the parks, but the reports I've read online are saying that you can use the non-activated ticket to prebook FP+ if you're staying onsite.

I would highly recommend getting the tickets activated on your arrival day (if you're not planning on going into the parks), to avoid a longer line/wait when you are entering the park for your first full day. We generally go to the TTC after checking in at our hotel to take care of it, so that we're ready to go the next morning.

Thank you so much!! Just the info I was looking for! I had planned on telling them to go to downtown Disney to activate the tickets but they would need to go to TTC?

You're welcome! I am pretty sure you can activate them at downtown Disney...pretty much any ticket window. We just do the TTC because it is convenient to shades of green, where we stay :)

Shades of Green is something else I need to do research on. The other military family just decided today that they want to do a June trip and they don't know where they want to stay. I've got to get them on the ball!! :rotfl:

Not sure how big your party is but there is a limit of 6 tickets including the service member ticket.

Thanks, they will be a party of 5. But that does bring up a question I have for the other family, they will be a party of 7 but will not be able to get the 7th ticket for $169 (a sister-in-law to the veteran). Can he still get a discounted ticket for the extra one and is their discount any better than undercover tourist?

Thanks so much for everyone's help. Helping these families and all of the FP+s changes, I feel like a fish out of water trying to plan these Disney trips!

Military members all have access to regular discounted MYW tickets at their base MWR. Prices vary a little bit from base to base, but at our base the MYW 4-Day Park Hopper ticket for an adult is $330.75 (compared to the listed Gate price of $359.97). As I said, prices can vary a little from base to base, but they are usually within a few dollars of each other. I don't know how that compares to UT though.

Thanks again Angel Ariel :goodvibes

Disney also has a % off room discount for the military. Depending on where they want to stay and their military rank, this could be cheaper than Shades of Green. Also, if they stay at Shades, they cannot pre-book FP+ at this time. Shades is considered off-site for FP+ just like Swan and Dolphin.

Thank you for this info sharonbe!! I'll look for the military discount rates. Can they book more than one room or just the one that the military member is staying in?
