Can anyone help with this military ticket question?

Thank you for this info sharonbe!! I'll look for the military discount rates. Can they book more than one room or just the one that the military member is staying in?

I'm pretty sure they can book more than one. We looked into it a few years back when some family members thought about joining us

I want to add that you can put your voucher number into MDE to set up FP+. And guest services can put them onto your MagicBand once you arrive.

Disney also has a % off room discount for the military. Depending on where they want to stay and their military rank, this could be cheaper than Shades of Green. Also, if they stay at Shades, they cannot pre-book FP+ at this time. Shades is considered off-site for FP+ just like Swan and Dolphin.

Shades of Green room rates can be found here. The most expensive (standard/non-suite) rate is $131/night.

I would look into the comparisons that the Military Disney Tips site provides for Disney hotel levels vs. SoG.

SoG compared to Value Resorts
SoG compared to Moderate Resorts

Comparison of SoG costs to Disney costs including Armed Forces Salute room discount rates

If FP+ prebooking is essential, then a Disney resort is definitely your best bet, and I'd definitely look into the Armed Forces Salute rates.

If prebooking isn't absolutely essential, then Shades (IMO) offers better rooms for way less than what Disney does. The comparable (by price) rooms at Disney are no match for Shades' rooms in quality/size, imo.

I'm assuming by the OP that the FP+ prebooking is quite important, but I wanted to put some good resources out there just in case :)

Thank you yet again Angel Ariel!!

From the disney website "Valid Military ID will be required upon check-in and military member (or spouse) must stay in the room."

This is the current Armed Forces Salute Room Discount information from the Military Disney Tips site:

This section deals with discounts on Disney Resort Rooms

The Disney Armed Forces Salute offers Disney resort rooms at both Disney World and Disneyland at a great discount.

Qualified individuals may purchase book up to a maximum of three* rooms at a time during the period of the Disney Armed Forces Salute. This discount may be used as many times as you'd like during the offer period

There are Blockout datesduring which Disney does not offer the discounts. These are "peak attendance" dates.

Please note, the number of rooms and room types at these rates are limited, so you might have to be flexible.

Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida
•40% off Deluxe Resorts
•35% off Moderates and Fort Wilderness Cabins
•30% off Value Resorts including Art of Animation (except Little Mermaid rooms)

Disney World Room Blockout dates:
•28 - 29 November 2013
•23 - 31 December 2013
•14 - 19 April 2014

* When booking more than one room at these rates all rooms must check in on the same day in the same resort. The military sponsor must occupy one of the rooms.

The military member does have to stay in one of the rooms, but they "sponsor" the others (much like military members can sponsor rooms for non-military family at Shades of Green as well)

Ok, that sounds much better! I was thinking that the other post really didn't mean that the military member could only have one room and meant that they just had to check in to at least one of the rooms.

Thank you again for the info Angel Ariel!! And thank you to your or your family member for the service to our country! :goodvibes

Thanks so much to everyone for the help already given on this thread. I had another question I am hoping someone has the answer to.

I am helping a party of 7 with a military members.
The party has
1.the military member
2.military member's DW
3.military member's DS age 17
4.military member's DS age 5
5.military member's MIL
6.military member's SIL
7.SIL's DH

So, can they use the $169 for all the adults and buy the extra ticket as a child's ticket? Will they say anything about them not using the $169 for his son? I know it isn't much of a savings but if it can be saved, why not? :thumbsup2

Thanks!!

Yes he can. Once he buys the ticket, he assigns it to whoever he wants, it doesn't have to be any of his family members at all. :)

Yep, this works fine.. We actually did that last year, travelling with 6 adults, 2 kids, and our Dd who was free. We used our 6 AFS tx for the adults, and bought the kids regular tickets.
