Can anyone help me learn to play the Haunted Mansion Game better?

I just can't seem to move my character around easily in the game. I've tried using both the mouse and the keyboard. The keyboard is hard because it doesn't go in the same direction as your character...in other words, pushing the right arrow make the character go to its right, not your right. But with the mouse, it just doesn't seem to work sometimes.

What am I doing wrong? Are there tips for playing this better that I haven't found?

Thanks so much!

RG

P.S. I just want to let you all know that I am "paying it forward" in the game by helping as many people as I can!

Here are some tips:

I use a wireless mouse with a laptop. I only click once to start "running" and just move it around and do not click again. Also, I use control to catch my ghosts - and I rapidly click control. I can average around 23 - 30 ghosts a round. I would love to help you but I am in work right now. :rolleyes2

This tip might help you -- just after the start of your next game, take a moment to click on the "keys" button on the bottom of the screen, then click the "alternate" key setup.

Then, right will make you go right, holding down left and down simultaneously makes you go diagonally down to the left, etc.

The next time you play, the game will remember the "alternate" setting, so you won't have to do it again. (This must be via cookies, as it's not saved with the character, but with the browser.)

I play ghosts exclusively with keyboard on a fairly slow computer, and am decent enough at it. With help from AceBugdozer and melkirob in a 2 on 1, got over 100 ghosts in 3 rounds.

Mouse is my one and only way. Keys too hard. Try and think ahead of your move. The ghosts tend to follow your moves so if you see one blocking a way double back it will follow that and then go back to where you want to go no ghosts blocking you anymore.

Thank you everyone.

Also, when I push control too many times, that "sticky keys" window comes up on my computer. I have to find a way to turn that off....

Thank you all!

My mistake was that I kept clicking my mouse too much. And Steve..you were right; the control key is not affected.

I am a much better player now...thanks so much to everyone! (Now if I could only master that fireworks game....)

Also, check the circle around your character. There are directional arrows
that light up to show you where your character is heading. By moving my
mouse around, I can "float" the character to wherever I need her to be.

I play with my thumb resting on the bottom left Control key, and I use a
mouse for the navigation. If I get stuck (and it does happen a bit), I will
click my mouse once to "jump start" my movement again. If you don't click
except to initiate movement, you should be fine.

I can't right now, but in about an hour if anyone would like to play a game with me I would greatly appreciate it. I need to get 45 this time. Every time I get close to it the other person leaves. I will in turn stay and let you do the same. I can only manage to do it when I win a round, you then lose a round, and then win the tie breaker. Anyone???
