Our Directv receiver finally died after 5 years of use! The access card kept on dying, and we had to call for readjustments all the time.

Anyway, DH calls and complains again (the fifth time). The first tier of customer service folks are just reading from thier script, so they aren't that helpful. (anything off the norm, they aren't trained for so they don't know)

So DH gets the supervisor on the line. They wind up offering him the TIVO/ or DVR receiver for free because we've been customers forever!

So what do I need to know? How do I work it? It is hard?

Thanks!

What a great deal! Nothing better than free :D

We don't have one but I hear they are incredibly easy to use.

Oh, you are going to love it! We have the same thing (Directv receiver w/ TiVo built in) in the den & our bedroom.

TiVo is so amazingly easy to use. You can get a season pass to your favorite show, where it will record every episode. Or, you can do wishlists. Like I have a "Disney World" wish list, so any time a show that has DW in the title or description comes on, it gets recorded. So, I get all the Food Network & Travel Channel specials, the episodes of Full House, Boy Meets World & other shows that go to WDW.

You can also pause & rewind live tv which is a lfesaver if you have kids!

TiVo is the best invention. I simply can't imagine watching tv w/o it.

Stinkerbelle's DH here.

All I have to say is Dual Tuners.
Record one show while watching another,
Record two different shows at the same time.

DW and I love our Directv w/ Tivo.

Yep. ::yes:: You'll love your new Tivo. Everything works basically the same as your old receiver, only you can pause and rewind live tv. Recording shows you want are so easy because you're already familiar with the Directv program guide. You just push the record button on the guide! :hyper: It will also record shows automatically that it thinks you'll like according to your viewing habits, but this isn't always very accurate. I watched Jeopardy once when we first got it, now it automatically records every game show known to man.

We got one a month or so ago, based on good input from folks here on the the DIS (you know, that good old, 'the DIS made me do it' routine, LOL :))

I suggest you read the manual that came with it and just play with the menus, like learning how to use a computer, takes a little bit, but easy. Enjoy, Cindy.

I love our TiVo! It is great! It also records on it's own shows it thinks you will like. After a while of watching regular TV, it will find shows like what you watch and record them. Sometimes, we watch them and other times, we just delete them!

Let's say you like Survivor. You get a "Season Pass" for that and it records that show every week without you having to set your VCR to do that! It also will find the day changes for the shows. Survivor went to Wednesdays for a few weeks due to basketball games and I did not know that; fortunately, TiVo recorded the show for me!

If you are watching live TV, and something comes up, you can pause the live TV, and do what ever came up (phone call, bathroom, etc) and not miss a second of the TV show!

I like the idea for Disney Wish list. I will do that, also!

You won't be disappointed with your TiVo!
