Can anyone explain this shipping issue to me?

I ordered some popcorn from a seller on Amazon.

If it matters:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040BGZJU

When it shipped I got a tracking number added to my Amazon order.

It got delivered today but I could not find it on my porch.

So I went to FedEx and tracked the order and found the following picture which is not my porch or one I recognized as being on my street.

I did not order anything from Chewy. Does Amazon sometimes put non Chewy orders in Chewy boxes for advertising?

I contacted the seller and they told me:
Hello,We are contacting you to clear up any confusion that may have occurred when looking at the tracking number we accidentally uploaded to your order. Our tracking software malfunctioned and accidentally added the wrong tracking number to your order. We will file a claim with FedEx on this shipment. We can issue a refund or a reshipment, which would you prefer?

That makes no sense. I walked around and found the porch 5 houses away, not someone that is friendly on the street. I rang their doorbell but no one answered and the package was no longer on the porch.

The only thing that makes sense is the package was delivered to the wrong address in a Chewy box but that does not follow with the seller saying the wrong tracking number was loaded to my order.

Hopefully the neighbors realize the box is not theirs and return it to me.

In any event the seller is shipping me another box of popcorn.

I understand the popcorn sellers gave you the wrong tracking number. To me, that means anything associated with the tracking number (delivery updates, pictures, etc) has nothing to do with your order.

So they should either give you the correct tracking number, or just a do a new shipment (which sounds like what they're doing).

Third parties might use other boxes. I've received third party Walmart orders in Prime boxes.

Our FedEx drivers deliver to the wrong house a LOT. Thankfully it's usually to our nice neighbor.

since the seller is replacing it i would'nt worry too much. i'm to the point where i will only do stuff that is shipped thru amzn b/c too many orders had tracking set up/me charged for the sale but the tracking showed that just a label was printed for days/weeks on end.

I've received ebay orders in Amazon boxes, but never Chewy. I don't think they would do that.

I had a Walmart delivery from the store 2 weeks ago. Showed that it was delivered to my front porch. But the pic they left was a neighbor on the next street's back porch. I went over and retrieved my packages and left a complaint with Walmart.

Now today, I have a replacement paper shredder coming from Amazon. It says delivered by the usps, but it's not on my front or back porch. Amazon says it was delivered. I said I don't care what it says, it wasn't delivered to my address. They are sending yet another replacement. I hope whoever gets the other one enjoys it. USPS doesn't leave pics of where they leave stuff, and I think they should.

USPS can be very frustrating. I often get messages that my package has been delivered by USPS but no package. It usually shows up the next day, especially when UPS or Amazon passes their delivery on to the post office to deliver. It can be delayed by a day. But it does make you worried that something has disappeared!

I think Amazon uses its own boxes but maybe a third party might use something else. Maybe print out the photo and leave a pleasant note, no reason to think these people did anything wrong at all.

Not sure if I ever mentioned the time I watched a UPS driver with his truck pulled up alongside a car with an open trunk tossing all his items into the trunk? I have seen ring videos of workers taking photos then picking the item back up and stealing it, then of course there is just regular theft. At our very nice apt complex they had to close the shipping room because it was obvious some residents just did their Christmas shopping from the room, tearing open packages and stealing what they liked.

They have so many randoms working holiday hours right now the driver probably ate your popcorn and just uploaded an image from something else. My DSs friend once got Uber Eats and the driver ate KFC something, said sorry and reimbursed his friend. There is no limit

I despise shopping & shipping this time of year, there is just so much theft and the leaner the times the more inventive the crook.

I’m not sure why you don’t think the tracking number for someone on your street was accidentally linked to you. Orders for your area/‘street being processed & one wrong swipe links the wrong tracking to you. I’ve never seen or heard of Amazon using anything but their own boxes.

We have had the same thing happen to us. As for the wrong tracking label, it has happened. The driver just scans the barcode . Especially if it is a busy season. It explains why 12+ years ago DH's Mom got a package ( from someone she ordered from) but it was addressed someone in Kentucky but delivered to her in Avalon NJ.

My mailman explained that they have to deliver the packages in a tight timeframe which they can’t always manage, so they tell Amazon that it was delivered and then deliver the packages the next day, it keeps them from getting in trouble with anazon.

I guess the only way it could work is if the place I ordered the popcorn from also fulfills Chewy orders.

And somehow my order for popcorn and my neighbors order for cat supplies came out of the printer next to each other.

And somehow their order got packaged but the label got attributed to me and attached to my Amazon order and not their Chewy order.

And somehow my label got lost at that point and no package was created yet the order was marked as shipped.

And somehow their order was still marked as completed even though the tracking info was not attached to their order.

It all just seems VERY unlikely.

Or your saying that the 12 digit shipping number, 719374896750, that was attached to my order, just randomly happened to be one being sent out by Chewy at the same time as my Amazon order to an address 5 houses away on the same street.

And that the fulfiller of the Amazon order just randomly assigned the wrong number to my order at the same time they accidently forgot to package the order.

Is that a 1 in 999,999,999,999 chance or greater?

What are the odds that there are two orders being generated by two different companies at the same time that could be going out to any address in the United States and you pick a random FedEx package number and it matches an address on a street that has 16 homes? I think the odds are much greater than 1 in 999,999,999,999.

It all just seems VERY unlikely.

I still think the dude just ate your popcorn, like it is delicious and when the midday munchies come along things just happen.

I think it was FedEx that mixed up the tracking numbers, not the shipper. Usually the shipper is just passing along the number given to them by FedEx. And FedEx does not have a reputation for being on top of things.

For 4 days, I've been getting "Your package is out for delivery" messages from UPS....great, I need the items for a childs ornament painting party on Tues. Every night after the 9 pm deadline, I get a message saying "Due to extreme event or weather, your package has been rescheduled". BUT the weather is fine....for 4 days! To make it worse, Amazon says "If your package isn't delivered, you can wait until the day after and cancel the order! That doesn't help. Tomorrow, I am going to drive the 45 min to the UPS building and yell until they give me me package....that according to them is sitting in their truck!!!

Honestly, I don't think anything purposeful or nefarious is going on. USP/FedEx/Amazon are all so busy, especially this time of year, that coming up with a plot to misroute a package would be too time consuming. And what would be the point on their end? It sounds like your package and the Chewy package were inadvertently assigned the wrong tracking numbers. The Chewy package was delivered first and you got the notification. You alerted the shipper and they offered to ship you a new package. Problem solved.

I received a tracking number for my shipment of Covid tests, coming through USPS. When I click on the tracking number, it says the package was delivered in February 2022 to an address in Texas. I am not now or have ever been in Texas, so I assume they gave me a wrong tracking number. It’s supposed to be delivered tomorrow so we will see what happens. USPS is the worst of the delivery options here.

It’s a possibility! To add on, we’ve put out a bin of drinks and snacks for the delivery drivers. So far, the only snack that has been taken are the cracker jacks! popcorn::

We are SE PA, close to Philly. We chatted with our UPS driver this past Sat. He said they have not hired the usual amount of seasonal staff this year because of budget cuts. The stock price is way down. His words, not mine, and I haven’t looked for myself. But, he said volume is up, and staffing is down. Not great!
