I ordered a Kajeet phone for DD12 for Christmas. Just activated it tonight. I did it online, and it gave a list of charges for basic service, which were outrageous (.32 per day just for having the phone! .10 per text incoming or outgoing!), then it gave me 3 options in a different box that said "additional offers" and one of the options was the plan i chose when i ordered the phone - $14.99 per month for unlimited texting (with 60 minutes talk-time). i was confused, so i called Kajeet and they assured me i wouldn't be stuck with the basic service charges, just the $14.99 per month. so i chose it and finished my activation. ok, i get to the final screen and it shows my account page-and all of these basic service charges were listed along with my $14.99 plan! so i called Kajeet again and gave them my account info and they looked it up and assured me there were NO additional charges, not even roaming. but...i'm still not sure. why would all that stuff be on the account page if i wasn't being charged for it? anyone know? :confused3 i'm worried about my first bill...i can't afford a huge cell phone bill.
 
I heard Clark Howard speaking on Kajeet and that is what he said the $14.99.
Why not have them send a confirmation email to keep on hand.

We have had Kajeet phones in our home for almost two years for my two oldest and I really like it! As long as you have one of the plans, there really are no surprises charges. And they just came out with the 14.99 plan(unlimited texting and 60 minutes of talk time) and the 19.99 plan(unlimited texting and 150 minutes of talk time). Plus all the parental controls from your computer! Kajeet fan here! Goodluck!:goodvibes
 
We also have Kajeet & we just pay for the plan (we're on the $19.99/month plan unlimited text & 150 phone minutes). The only other fees are $1 a month for something-or-other, and initially there was a .32 cent charge when activating. Every now & then I see a call has a .25 cent fee - not sure why, and it's so random I never checked. If DS accepts or sends a picture on his phone there is a .25 cent fee for that. I might switch down to the $14.99 plan if I can, he rarely uses it for phone calls anyway.


I did have an issue, we are on an auto bill cycle for the 9th of the month, they just charge the plan ($20.99 with that $1 fee). Well starting at 12:01am on the 9th DS was getting chared for every text he sent until about noon that day. I did email them & they were prompt in refunding the money. Seems they don't actually "charge" my CC until noon, so technically the plan wasn't in effect from 12:01am til that time. Hopefully that was a once & done thing - so be aware & double check that on your account!

I love the parental controls. I can change the time the phone can be used daily, and see when he's using it & who he's calling/texting.
 

thank you all! the rep assured me i would only be charged for the plan, no matter what the confirmation page said, but it was really nagging at me.

This is Carol with kajeet. Thanks to all the other kajeet customers that have helped to clarify our plans.

If you purchase the $14.99 plan, you will be charged $14.99 + a 5% service fee for 60 minutes and unlimited texts (per month). Additional voice minutes are $.10 for each minute, picture messages are $.25/picture, and web access is $.35 for about 10 mobile web pages.

These additional services are charged to the phone's "family wallet" - not your credit card - so you control if they are purchased. I.e., outside of the initial $5 that is included with your phone at the time of purchase, you decide if you want to add money to the wallet for other services.

If you want to add emergency funds that are used for only specific calls/texts, add these to the "parent wallet" and specify the numbers that should be able to charge to this wallet (i.e., calls or texts to/from these numbers). This way any line in your account that runs out of funds can still reach mom/dad/etc. (Calls to 911 will get through regardless of how many minutes are left in the plan or if you have money in your wallet).

If you have any issues with the charges, please contact kajeet customer care. You can see exactly why these are applied by logging in to kajeet.com and looking at the account activity. This gets updated within about 15 minutes of any service use).

I had Kajeet for DD, it was $10 a month and it worked fine. But then the cc I had used to set up the acct expired and they never tried to contact me to update (and I did not remember it being that card that was the auto bill card) so they simply closed the account....with NO notice. I tried to call DD because I was running really late (accident on my commute) and I wanted to let her know, it didn't work. I was not happy, I called them when I got home and rep I got was very rude and not helpful at all, she basically said she couldn't help me at all that the phone was just off period. Since then we've added both of our girls to our Verizon plan. But, while we had Kajeet it was great, worked well for us and was very cheap, there was no texting on DDs phone with Kajeet but the phone was nice and the phone service was fine, it was just the customer service that wasn't so great. :)

did anyone get a kajeet phone without a sim card? my DD's phone has no sim card, so it won't store any contacts or anything. HELP!!!

ok, i just read a kajeet blog that says their phones don't use sim cards...if there's no sim card, how the heck do i get this thing to store phone numbers and other information? i keep putting numbers into contacts, but it keeps telling me the contact list is empty!

i spoke with customer care this morning, after waiting on hold for over an hour, and the young man was VERY helpful. he told me how to completely reset the phone, and now i can add all the contacts DD will ever need to her phone :) however, he did have me change the roaming over to "home only" from "automatic", and now i have no signal out here.
 
ok, i had to call customer care yet AGAIN today....DD's cell phone charger has stopped working! this is the 2nd time we've charged it since we got the phone, and it worked the first time, but it doesn't work now. kajeet customer care is supposed to call me back tomorrow to let me know if tech support is going to send a new charger or just replace everything. i'm pretty down on this whole kajeet experience at this point.

thank you :) i hope they take good care of me, lol. i'm beginning to wish i'd just added DD to our AT&T plan. hopefully, i'll have a resolution tomorrow.
 
no call back from kajeet today. this is NOT making me a happy camper.
