Why is it getting so hard to spend money at Disney? We tried to get a camp site and a cabin for this weekend and I was told the Fort was sold out. We probably would have ended up extending through the Oct. GG. For a company that, I think scanned you before left to make sure you were not leaving with money, it’s weird. This is not the first time this has happened. When we were there last trip we tried to get 3 sites and a cabin and they told me the Fort was sold out. I went out on my cart and the Fort camp sites was 30% full and the cabin maybe 10% full. We also had friends that stayed in a cabin for a week while we were there they tried to extend 3 more nights and they were told the cabins were all sold out and had to leave. I went by their old cabin for 4 days and it was empty and the cabin loop was about 10% full:confused3

Call the front desk and ask to speak to the manager. 2 years ago CRO said sold out for an extra day. But after talking to the Fort manager It was no problem to extend our stay for 3 days.

Maybe we can get him to come to our GG

The friend that tried to extend 3 more nights went to the front twice talked to a manager and call center res. and was told the same thing

This weekend (as I realized just today) is Columbus Day weekend, so a lot of people have a long weekend. Probably why it's sold out.

Yes the Fort is definitely filling up. After dinner today we rode through the 100, 200, and 300 loops and there was maybe one site available in each loop. The 400 and 500 loops appeared to be pretty full also. We didn't ride down the main road to check out the other loops. The full hookup loops have more campers in them then they have had the last month. Even the 1900 has quite afew campers. I can really see a difference in the crowds this week especially at the parks as compared to September crowds.

And the HEAT is unbearable!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

When Eisner wanted to shut down the 2D production facility at the Studios, he cut the production time for Brother Bear in an effort to make it a flop and justify his decision. Now, we see Disney dumping a bunch of money into the Fort (the pool, premium sites, extended loop, previous rehabs on comfort stations, etc) while, at the same time raising prices yet turning down reservations - a formula for sure failure. Soon to be appearing - the new DVC property - Fort Wilderness (but don't get excited - it won't be a campground).

That is one of the most poignant statements I have read! Not to mention correct!!

Could it be possible that people are renting cabins just to get the free dining but not really staying there? I guess I would be picking on locals here, but just curious.

I guest Disney company is not like most companys in a recession. Other companys kiss your butt to get your money. But Disney in a recession seems to go out of the way not to take your money.

Due to the expense of the cabins, I would doubt that theory. People would more likely book at AS, Pop, PO or CBR first because they are much cheaper than a cabin.

THIS local who used to go to several places at WDW just for dinner now eats meals outside of WDW because the food at WDW has gotten extremely crappy and is not worth the $$$$ - dining plan or no dining plan.

I just looked on the website, and they have full hookup sites available for Saturday and Sunday night. They don't have anything available for Friday, though.

I just checked again starting the 10th - 28th and they have full, preferred, and premium available for the entire reservation.

I think tomorrow night is the killer.

Can't get the cabins to come up on any combination.

This happened to us when we stayed at the Fort last month. We wanted to extend our cabin stay by one night. When we called the front desk late the night before we were supposed to check out we were told it was no problem that they had lots of vacancies and we could stay in our cabin but we had to call reservations to finalize it in the morning. We got up later than usual to have a relaxed final day, told our kids we were staying then called reservations. They said they had absolutely no available cabins and we had to check out. The entire week we'd been there they had two cabin loops with nobody staying in them. I guess they'd rather have them stay empty than have paying customers! So frustrating. Our boys (2 and 5) were devastated that we couldn't stay after all. :guilty:

Please forgive me, I'm completely new to all of this (planning our very first trip to WDW), and I'm trying to find out about the cabins at Fort Wilderness. From what I see at the WDW website, the "cabins" are actually RVs. Is this correct?

No, that is not correct. The cabins are fully self-contained mobile homes with siding that makes them look like Log Home.

They have a full kitchen with full size appliances (Fridge, stove/oven, microwave, sink, dishwasher).

They have a living room with a sofa, TV, a couple of chairs, and a small dining area.

In the living room is a pull-down double murphy bed.

They have a full bath.

They have a bedroom with a double bed and a set of bunkbeds.

They have a large deck with a picnic table on them and a charcoal grill.

Housekeeping comes around to the cabins every day just like any resort room. They make the beds, clean the bathroom, clean the kitchen (even load and run the dishwasher for you.)

Can y'all please work on that? We'll be there in about 3 weeks and it would be great if someone could turn down the thermostat a bit by then. ;)

Lglchick... Welcome to the camping boards!:welcome:

Some good photos of the cabins (interior and exterior) can be found HERE

Also keep in mind that this weekend is the Race for the Taste at Epcot. So, the whole WDW resort will probably be busier than normal at this time of the year. We're staying in the cabins on Saturday night for Sunday's race. My boys are so excited!!:cheer2:

No, the cabins are certainly not RVs. They are wooden cabins!

Well... not exactly. They certainly LOOK like wooden cabins, but as Carol noted, they're actually mobile homes with log siding.

Check out the links in the post above. They really do look/feel like "cabins" :thumbsup2

Thanks so much everyone! I guess I must have clicked on the wrong thing and got the campsite image because when I went back, I found a photo of the cabins. They are SWEET! And I think they'll be great for our family of 5. Now, I've just got to pull the trigger and get it reserved. OMG! Is everyone this nervous when planning their very first WDW trip?!

You would not believe how HOT it is. The heat index has been around 105. They said that tomorrow should break a record for the fifth day in a row that it has been record breaking temperatures. How did we get so lucky. The news states that next week should be alittle cooler - high 80's. I don't know about you but once it gets close to 90, it's all down hill from there. Not much difference between 90 and 100 especially with the high humidity.
