I can't stand "reality TV". What a misnomer. There is nothing "real" about dating and proposing to someone in a totally contrived setting.

I have enough "reality" in my life. I watch TV for information, and for escape.

The reason that I watch some reality TV shows is for escape (entertainment). I agree that there is nothing real about them, but some of them are pretty darn funny to watch.

I do admit that I have watched a few and will continue to watch American Idol and Survivor and The Apprentice when they are on. I have given up many of them this year which makes me proud!!!

I agree with all that you said, mostly the last line. I'm positive he didn't mean anything bad by it, he isn't like that, contrary to accusaions that he is "self righteous". He is genuinely one of the nicest people you'll ever want to meet.

That being said, we all have our limits to what we feel crosses the line in terms of entertainment. I do think Dan is trying to get our hackles up with some of his posts on the subject. I think he secretly likes these shows but something deep down inside him tells him that they are unethical.

Do I make a good arm chair psychiatrist or what?

Coral, I am glad you see it, humor.

And others, if we all can laugh and smile a bit now and then, laugh with others, laugh at ourselves, just laugh, what a neat place this world would be. Please don't take everyting I say on these boards seriously. I certainly have serious posts/threads, but enjoy a fun thread too. Do a search, I think you will find I have both. Fun threads oftentimes mirror real life.

This one here came while I was at my office today, just catching up for a few moments with the news on MSNBC after I had had a bite to eat. There was a mention of some sort about 'reality' TV shows (can't even recall what it was about). I recalled that I had posted this same list, with some dumb similar question as I did here, obviously not a serious question (I hope one would not think I was looking for an update ), several times over the past couple years. I thought, hey, maybe a slow day on the DIS, I'll throw a funny on there, people know I am always joking and chiding about 'reality' TV, maybe I can elicit a smile or two. Searched for that site, copied, pasted, added a dumb question. I guess I did elicit a smile or two, maybe three, but some folks do seriously need to lighten up a bit, not healthy. If you think I am serious about a reality TV post, not sure what you will say if I say something really serious.

So, for those who did smile, glad you did, glad you found some humor today. If you are 'into' 'reality' TV, and smiled, super, that is neat. If you grumped a bit, sorry you found the thread, I really hate when I am the cause of a frown. If you are 'into' 'reality' TV and you grumped, I can only extend an apology for a cyber faux pas.
