Can an employer

Heck, my DD's band won't even let us talk about the BAND on public forums. :lmao:
BTW- My employer had us sign something like that as well. Very common at corporate jobs with large companies.

ColoradoDisneyFreaks,

You hit the nail on the head!

What a lot of people have said here is that of course I work for a Dr, lawyer, the police, insurance company and of course there are things I can't talk about!

That is not the point. The point is if on you FB page you have pictures of a bunch of drunks partying, or doing silly things, or comments on your wall about chasing the oppisite sex or anything that some segment of the population would find questionable, then your employer does not want that associated with their company because it lessens the companies reputation. A good idea also is if you are contemplating a new job and present yourself well turned out and polished for the interview, have you thought about what you might look like to a future employer on your facebook page? More and more hiring companies are looking to social media to get a look at the real you. That great interview and sterling recommendations could easily be undone by you pictures on your FB page. For some reason many cannot grasp the concept that even though you seperate your worlds (FB is social, work is work and more professional) that the internet is freely availabe to the world and you can research a lot about people by just searching their name.

Seems or lives were a lot easier to sub divide in the days before the internet.

First off I know in this economy I know we are all so lucky to have the jobs that we have, etc, etc.

Can employer make their employees sign an agreement stating that they will not talk about the job/place of employment online including social media? TIA!

We had to sign something like that-I tell my DH stuff-but have to be very careful when we do a project for (especially) someone with $$ that we dont say how much they spent-or not to give info about what Mr X bought-if Mrs X gets the credit card bill and calls to ask about it(and she didnt recieve the merchandise-if you get my drift;)

We didn't have to sign anything, but the Company's policy on it is in the Code of Conduct.

They don't really care if you put the Company name as your employer. All they ask is that if you will be engaging in discussions on controversial subjects make sure you do so in a way that it is clear you do not represent the Company's official position.

:thumbsup2

As a rule, I never post something I wouldn't mind sharing with the world. People also need to warn their spouses about this too...ones "friends" may be spouses of other co-workers, and believe me, it ALWAYS gets back to the employer.

Some employers have their own FB page, and encourage people to "friend" them. :rotfl2: :rotfl2::rotfl2: Yeah. Right. Why not just give Big Brother an engraved invitation into your personal life?!
