I know rental car companies have a much higher minimum age. But what about hotel/motel chains?

I've been all over the Holiday Inn website and don't see a minimum age mentioned anywhere.

i think 18 is the minimum at most motel/hotels. some might be 21, but i rented hotel rooms before i was 21, so i has to be allowed some places. :)

In the Dallas area several years ago we tried to get one for prom and they required proof of ID to be 21 so my mom had to get one for us.

I think though some of the non-chain motels only require you to be 17 or 18.

I think at the beaches up in the Destin/Panama City area you have to be 25. I might be wrong but seems like some friends of ours mentioned that. Surely at least by 21 in most places. I think I would call your local Holiday Inn and ask.

Just talking from a 19 yr old at work see tried to get a room with her BF but they were both under 21 so they couldn't Ahhh, I remeber when I was 18 getting rooms down the Cape with no problems, I guess times have really changed. :D

Depends where you are, and what kind of place you're looking at. I know in the Hamptons and in the Jersey Shore for after prom people had no problem renting rooms when they were 18. We rented a house when we were 18 in the Hamptons. I know in Disney you can at 18...best bet is to call and ask.

I know last year ds and a friend went to Kings Island and got a hotel room. They had reservations and a credit card (and a coupon) and had no trouble getting a room. I think it was a best western, I do know it was a national chain.

I guess I'll call this particular Holiday Inn, to make sure.

I may have lost my mind, but I've agreed to let DS go with two friends to West Palm to see Radiohead, in October. They're going to take the train (which is much better than worrying about them driving on the Turnpike) and spend the night. They will be high school seniors, but DS turns 18 in late September.

Well, you could try making the reservations for him if they don't let 18yos make reservations and maybe call them to tell them your son is going with your permission. That might work.

I know had hotel rooms before I was 18 and you would think that since 18 is the legal age to live on your own that it would be legal for getting hotel rooms. I can understand how some people wouldn't want 18yos to stay in a hotel room alone because of irresponsibility maybe...but hey, hotels can have that problem with people over 30 I'm sure.
