Can Amazon do an exchange rather than a return and re-purchase?

I ordered $100 in items with my Mastercard through that MC deal (get $10 off a $100 order and $10 off a future purchase.)

The rules are clear, you return an item, you get the amount, less the $10 bonus and you do not get the $10 off future purchase.

We ordered a remote controlled car for my son. It is defective. The lights come on and the wheels turn but the forward button doesn't work at all and the car won't actually GO.

Anyway, how do I do an exchange rather than a return?

Or, can I ask for an Amazon gift card or credit to Amazon so my MC isn't affected?

Yes. You can do everything online and they give you the option for a replacement. I once received a soft cover cookbook with the front cover partially torn off. I contact Amazon and they sent a replacement before even receiving the damaged copy. They are great.

The item is now $89. I purchased it for $29. They said they can only give me a refund and cannot exchange because the item is no longer available through Amazon.

I asked about a different color. Nope, only THAT color can be replaced.

The other colors are now up to $59 cost anyway.

Guess my 7 year old will NOT get his R/C car until the price comes back down.
