Can adults go to bibbidi bobbidi boutique?

Surely, it can't all be about the fact that grown ups won't fit in the $80dresses?

Why can't it be? Why would you book up spots with people who you couldn't upgrade (talk into buying expensive costumes)?

Let's see. I own BBB. Would I rather have an adult in my chair paying for their hair and nails to get done, or a child in that chair and someone paying for their hair and nails and a dress and shoes and a wand and bows and........

Come on now, ladies. Not even little girls look good after those tacky makeovers, why on earth would you want to do that to yourself as an adult?!?

I totally get adults wanting to have a little childlike fun, but not when the outcome is so unflattering.

Thank you, you said exactly what I should have said in the beginning.

My daughter and I are booked to do the Mermaid Package at the Pirates League in September. It looks like a good alternative and it's cheaper. :thumbsup2

We're doing the same! DD really wanted me to do BBB with her and I explained that I was too old so we decided to book PL the date of MNSSHP.

Someone obviously thought that allowing anybody over 12 years old to sign up for BBB was getting in the way of something. That's why there's an age limit on it now. Is it possible that with all of Disney's planning, they never realized that adults might want to sign up for a princess makeover, or that little girls would want mom to get made up too?

Adults are still allowed at the Pirates League, is that for children as well? What's the difference between Pirates League and BBB, that there is no age limit for pirate makeovers? Maybe since Pirates was marketed to both from the beginning, and they sell pirate accessories for adults...

But that's my point! Why is it either/or?!? Increase capacity and have BOTH!! The demand is clearly there, if people are being turned away on a daily basis because they don't have a reservation.

And, again, maybe I'm just grouchy today, but....

"I wouldn't like it done to myself, so you're just tacky if you want it!!" really rubs me the wrong way.

That sentiment has been repeated over & over by multiple people in this thread. It's so dang condescending. Ugh. I feel awful for the women who have had the nerve to post their tales of enjoying BBB in the face of repeated judgements.

Trust me. I've seen waaaaaaay worse looks on women in the parks than a glittery head and pink eyeshadow.

So it's not for you? Fine. But it's (quite frankly) not very kind to bash the people who enjoyed it as "tacky" and "scary tarts" and "not a good look".

And a salon/spa might prefer a client who will pay for a cut/color/mani/pedi over someone who is just going in for a cut because it means more money for them. But they don't exclude people who just book haircut appointments. And how do you then explain it when there are plenty of little girls who do not get any of that upgrading done? Because if you'd rather have someone who gets the works, then you'd also have to start excluding children who do not get that.

Fair point, but I see it as all part of a discussion. Some posters are telling us why they like bbb, and others are stating why they don't. And to be fair, as one of the people who does not like the look, I haven't seen one person who enjoys it say that they felt beautiful. They thought it was fun, or a good family experience, and I think that's great.

But the chance of the upgrade is always there. There is not even a chance of that with an adult. When you ask someone "Do you want fries with that?" there is always the chance they will say yes. You can't even ask an adult if they want to upgrade at BBB, there is nothing to upgrade to.

And as adults are not allowed to dress up on a daily basis and go to the parks, there is probably not a high demand for it either. How many people would spend a small fortune on a outfit for their little one and themselves knowing they couldn't then go to the parks?

I can understand the possibility of an upgrade. But personally, I find it a silly business tactic to now restrict the age based on a mere chance...because for all they know, they could be replacing those adults with more children who'd turn down the upgrade and be paying the exact same amount. If I were to restrict people, I'd do it on the guarantee of more money...not on just a chance. But that's my own take on it.

It's based on averages, so if kids under 12 on average spend $150 per session and adults spend $50 they are going to try to maximize the number of guests under 12. It doesn't matter if there are a few adults who may spend more of kids who spend less.

See I made you a chart.

Age groups Customers Avg cost Total Rev
3 to 5 20 $120.00 $2,400.00
6 to 9 50 $200.00 $10,000.00
10 to 12 20 $100.00 $2,000.00
Over 12 10 $50.00 $500.00
100 $117.50 $14,900.00

Excuse me, but I fail to see how your opinion of my appearance is has any bearing on the matter, either with or without BBB. What gives you the right to tell me what I should and should not do based on your personal preferences about my appearances? I wouldn't have taken that from my husband, much less some stranger on the internet.

Taste differes. If you don't like it, don't look. I happen to like it.

Fair point, but I see it as all part of a discussion. Some posters are telling us why they like bbb, and others are stating why they don't.

But the difference is that others are saying "This is why I like it, so I should be able to do it" but the OP is saying "This is why I don't like it, so YOU should not be able to do it". If you want to talk about how you wouldn't do it for whatever personal reason, that's fine, but you want to tell us we shouldn't do it because of your personal reasons. That's a totally different discussion.

I wasn't singling anyone out or remarking specifically about anyone's appearance. I'm sorry if you thought I was. Just, in general, I think the hairstyles that come out of BBB are not that great for anyone.

Obviously others like it.

I would have to agree that some of them are a little tacky. However that is just the fun of it! I actually think the bun is quite cute, but it would be much nicer if it wasn't so tight and pulled back.

I think it would be great to have options based on the princesses. So...

Cinderella package- hair up in a wide, loose bun, with a blue band or tiara

Sleeping beauty package- tiara with hair in loose, wide curls at the bottom

Belle package- a loose half bun tied with a yellow ribbon, complete with tiara, and rest of hair left long and slightly curled

Snow white package- volumed hair that curls under at the bottom, with a tiara

Ariel package- long, straight hair with lots of volume, plus a green hairband and tiara

Rapunzel package- if hair is long enough, plait and stick in flowers. Otherwise, put flowers in loose hair and ensure it is straight

Tiana package- hair tied in a bun with a little on each side falling past the ears. Add a sparkly blue hairband, like tiana

Mulan package- tie hair up in a loose bun and put in some decorative Chinese chopsticks

Jasmine package- tie hair in a ponytail and use thick bands like jasmine. Add a turquoise hair tie with gem.

Now, I know this might not be viable but it would be so cute! I know when I was young, I really wanted to have hair like Belle. Heck, even throw in some pixie dust, on each hairstyle, I think that would be magical.

I think it would be lovely for little girls to have hair just like their favourite princess. I also think they would look super pretty on adults:)

Sorry, but none of those styles would work. The ladies who work there are not licensed to really style hair. They are only licensed to braid hair.

What I get is that you actually are trying to force your opinions by telling everyone they are wrong to do these things. I do not know if you realize it but you are coming off as the people who do these things are ridiculous and that we are wrong. This post was supposed to be about someone asking if adults can still make reservations and why they can not. Not asking others if its wrong or ridiculous or whatever.

Actually, I was reading it the exact opposite way. To me, and this is just my honest opinion, you didn't come off in an exactly positive light.

I don't want to get into a debate with you, nor am I attacking you, I'm just pointing out that you would be the pot calling the kettle black in this instance from my perspective.

I have no dog in this race, and could care less about you defending yourself.

Parents get upset when they see adults riding Dumbo, too, there's no age limit on that. Yet.

And standing in character lines, sitting on the curb for parades, wearing birthday buttons, etc. I still think the deciding factor for the change was an economic one.

Last year I booked a surprise appointment for DSis (age 27). It was fabulous. She did hair, makeup and nails. I bought a black shirt that said Princess in rhinestones (you can see it in my sig). Then she did the photo shoot. It was fun for all of us. Even my DS9 got into it and took pics of her during the whole process. She absolutely loved it and it as worth every penny to me. Where else but Disney can a grown woman be a princess and wear a tiara. :)

And let me make clear - this was not a lark or done just for amusement or for a DD bonding experience (I have a boy). This was a magical experience for all of us. This is what Disney is all about.

And personally, I love these pics. She looks lovely!

Does anyone know if you can purchase the tiaras and stuff without an appointment?
We'll be down a month earlier and maybe I can get her something appropriate to wear to celebrate the trip!:goodvibes

oh yes, they'll let you buy anything you want. We also bought a nicer tiara in Adventureland. There was a cart with lots of nice stuff outside the pirate store.

Also, check out my Princess Package sig. There's a personalized rhinestone shirt that's perfect for adults. The link is in the post.

Plus nothing loose on a child would last longer than the walk from the chair to the door. And after paying over $100 for it can you imagine the uproar if that sucker didn't last more than 10 minutes? So in order to make it last so parents think they sorta get their money's worth they make it to last and the easiest way to do that is to put it in tight and spray it!

IMO it is a waste of money at the price it is and really can't believe grown women would spend that much but as long as I'm not paying go ahead.

Where else you ask? How about an actual beauty salon? There are several places in my small town alone where any adult can get their hair, make-up and nails done. Buy a tiara at a Claire's in your mall, and you'll be a princess! ;)

I think that Disney started the whole BBB thing for children, thinking that most people probably wouldn't treat their young daughters to a fancy manicure, hair-do and make-up at a salon at home. BBB was designed to be a special treat for children on vacation. I somehow doubt that Disney anticipated grown women would be interested in vacation "beauty" treatments designed for young girls since they can go to salons and spas anytime, anywhere.

I guess Disney could build more BBB's to meet the demand if they thought it would be profitable in the long run, but since they decided to limit the BBB to the people for whom it was intended in the first place, the answer to the original question is no. Adults can not participate in BBB services.

And why would you think that? Nowhere has Disney ever said it was started specifically for children. They have always allowed adults until very recently so obviously it was not objectionable to them then. Why would this part of Disney be any different than the rest of the park?

It is changed now. None if us is privy to the reason(s) behind the decision. But there's also no evidence for your assertion on what Disney had in mind for BBB at the start.
