I can NOT decide where to stay. I'm driving my family crazy. Bottom line..we'll be in Disney and having a BLAST no matter what! I stayed at the Yacht Club last time...LOVED it. Had a marina view. Enjoyed the Boardwalk a lot! We didn't take advantage of our close proximity to Epcot at all. We didn't go to Epcot until our last full day there because everyone told me the kids wouldn't "get it" yet. Well they LOVED it and so did I. So this time I couldn't afford rack rate at YC, no CRT code available, no AP rate either...only for concierge. I want to try all the resorts anyway. I had a room at the Swan with a balcony at the nurse's rate. Now I have 2 connecting rooms at Pop Century at a great rate. The 2 rooms are going to be less than the one room at the Swan. We are trying to save money and we plan on being park commandos.

Will this Yacht Club Lovey love the value resort?
Someone ease my mind!

we are going to be at pop century the first week in february and if you like to have fun and take a walk down memory lane while saving money then YES i think you will have a wonderful time..heck how cant you have a wonderful time..your in DISNEYWORLD for goodness sake....I say stay at pop century and save some money.....think of it this way...its a new resort.....you can be one of the few that can say you have already been there.....and you can add it to your list of places you have stayed...have a great time!!!

Well, it really depends on what you're looking for at the resort and what you enjoyed about the Yacht Club. I would say, if you can do it, don't downgrade co drastically, but maybe to a moderate resort instead (possibly Coronado). Pop is a fun, great resort for what it has, but your room is going to be smaller, you will only have a food court instead of full service restaurants, and you'll have 3 pools that are themed, but don't have any slides. Again, it depends on what you want in your resort.

Well this VWL, WL, Poly, Beach Club, CR, BWV, POL, CBR ect..ect...lovey...just made reservations this afternoon to stay at Pop Century for $82.50 a night...I will be able to eat at many more nice restaurants by staying at PC (also already have tickets for Atlanta Braves Spring Training game)

I wish I could stay at pop century, but not that i'm in the DVC I won't be able to! I think they should let you use points for the value resorts too! I really liked all stars and I think I would love Pop century! Oh well i'll have to just go over there for a meal or something on my next visit!!

The only resort we've be able to downgrade to without regret was the POR and even then we missed the feel of the deluxes. But it was for a surprise trip I planned for my family and moneey was tight so it was still great. At the value and moderate level you don't get closets in the rooms just a bar and a shelf above them to store stuff. The rooms are smaller and you don't have a patio or balcony which we really love and use every night.

As far as the resort itself, where at the YC you had a choice of walking or the boat to Epcot and MGM there are only busses at the Values and moderates. The pool at the YC, Stormalong Bay can't even be compared to the ones at the PC, it just blows them away. Plus you only have a food court and pizza delivery as far as meal options. At the POR you do get a nice food court, sit down full service restaurant, Boatwrights and an indoor lounge with great entertainment.

I agree with buckethead and say *if* you do decide to downgrade then go with a moderate, my choice would be the mansions at the POR. I don't really know you but I also stayed at the YC my last trip and I know that if i were to downgrade to a vlaue, even a brand new one, I'd be disappointed.

How about the BC? Or the Boardwalk Inn? If there's no discounts at any of those personally I say keep the Swan if you want the great location or go with the POR and requests the mansions.

Good luck with your choice!!

Have you thought about splitting your stay ? I am going 1/8- 1/18 with the first 5 nights at Pop century and the last 5 at the YC. This saves a lot of money and we still get to go to our favorite resort for 5 nights.

Call and request the 50's building. Lady and the Tramp! I find it so romantic LOL!!! We are staying at PC and I can't wait. Even if you find it less than wonderful, your kids may fall in love with it. One thing I have found is that you have to look at each resort on its own and not in comparison with other resorts. PC will never be YC and the Poly will never be POR, but each one is wonderful in its own way and will be memorable for what they have different rather than in common!

I agree...you will be disappointed if you try to compare YC to PC. The kids will love PC! I've never stayed at the YC...I can only imagine!::MinnieMo

My answer would be no.

We booked last year at POR. A lovely resort. Split our stay with the Poly. My husband has me on video tape saying "Next time tell me to just spend the money , it is worth it".

Loved all of the resorts, but I think you will notice the difference. If you don't like taking buses, you may spend most of the difference in cabs between the resorts. Also check your food choices to make sure that you are comfortable with the restaurant amenities at your resort.

Though I haven't stayed at Pop Century, I have stayed twice at All-Star Music. We've also stayed at Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary, Beach Club, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian. The values aren't bad, they are just an entirely different atmosphere. I say give it a try!

Thanks for all of your replies!
I think we will give old Pop Century a try....I'm sure my kids will love it. My problem is the old "family of 5" problem. If I stay at any moderate other than POR, then I have to have 2 rooms. The trundle bed option at POR seems way more cramped than the 2 room option at PC.

As far as the new codes go, I was told for my dates: 2/19-2/26 there is no availability at BWI, BC, YC, Contemporary, or WL. There are Poly garden view rooms at $275 or something like that.

As far as pools go, February weather can go either way. As far as food choices, most of our dinners are priority seatings at specific restaurants. I loved the YC, but didn't find there to be huge dinner choices for 3 small kids there anyway. I'm probably better off with the food court option.

The bus thing...well any first hand experiences with that at PC would be appreciated. The thought of 2800 families fighting for bus service is somewhat frightening!

Give PC a try! We were just at PC Dec. 18-23 and we loved it! In the past we have stayed at the moderates and at the Dolphin and I liked PC as much as any of these other resorts. The Dolphin was nice because of it's location but other than that it lacked the "Disney atmosphere" that we were used to from staying at the moderates. We have always loved staying at the moderates but if it comes down to price (and there has gotten to be quite a price difference going from a value to a moderate to a delux) I'll stay at a value again and I'd definitely stay at PC again just because we enjoyed it so much. We are park comandos when we are at WDW and we basically only sleep and shower in our room and the rooms at PC were just fine. It was just a little smaller than what I remember a room at the moderates being. The food court was great and very convenient and DD did get a quick evening swim in 1 night in the Hippy Dippy pool and didn't even miss the fact that there wasn't a pool slide. DH enjoyed looking at the "shadow boxes" full of memoribilia from the different decades. Another big plus in my opinion is that you said you'd have 2 rooms at PC, which means you'd have 2 bathrooms!!!! PC is a great new resort, we will definitely stay there again!!! Go and enjoy it keeping in mind that it will be a different type of resort and don't compare and I think you should be fine. After all like you said you'll be at Disney and in my opinion any day any where at Disney is much better than a day at home LOL.

I would suggest that you stay in a better resort. If you are a nurse, perhaps you could work a few more double shifts, this will pay for the better resort. As a person who stayed in many hotels in orlando, I can say there is a reason for the luxury resorts charging more.

Wow Divamomto3 we must have been posting at the same time LOL.

I can tell you that our experiences at PC with the buses was fine. IMO they did a great thing with their bus area at the PC. They have waiting areas like they do for the rides at the theme parks where you wait in an actual line so first come first to get on the bus. There were many times when we had been waiting for a bus at one of the moderates and the waiting area would keep getting more and more crowded and when the bus would finally come it would be a mad rush of people squeezing their way on, no cares as to who had been waiting in "line" the longest. At least this can't happen at PC. The buses ran frequently and we never had to wait more than 10 minutes. The drop off and pick up area for PC at EPCOT is a bit of a distance so if you have little children strollers would probably come in handy.

Have a great time at PC!!!!

LOL! No double shifts for me, thanks anyway.

On our last trip we stayed at OKW 2 bed villa and GF concierge. This trip we are staying at POR and POP Century. I loved the GF for its beautiful buildings and location. I love POR for its landscaping. I am looking forward to staying at POP Century for the giant Disney Icons, bright colors, food court and sparkling new rooms. I think a new room in a value resort can be nicer than an old room in a moderate. The only thing I will miss is the pool slide. We rarely do sit down restaurants at resorts so wont miss that. If we want to hire watermice we can go to the Polynesian or GF:smooth:
