Can a travel agent cancel a reservation without your knowledge?

I'm glad it all worked out! Thanks for letting us know the update! Have a magical trip! (I'm impatiently counting down for mine..16 days!!)

I would think the TA should have been upfront with you from the start rather than going behind your back. That in itself raises a red flag of her ability to be an effective TA. Like others have said, "sounds fishy to me".

I hope it all works out for you in the end.

I am with a big name TA and EVERY SINGLE TIME I made a payment with her, she would send me an email confirmation forward from Disney within minutes of my hanging up with her. That email has the total the trip cost, what payments have been made and what all if any is left. I got this each time when I was making payments and then this last time for our October trip, I got it straight away when I paid it all at once.
Ditto. Anything else and I'd be nervous enough to do the 3-way call with Disney that PP suggested. No way would I risk - even if its a tiny risk - showing up at the resort and not having my expected room/package/etc. booked. Its just not worth even worrying about to me - I'd bail on the TA today.

I have to agree with the PP that I would be terrified to just show up at the resort. I hope by now this has all be settled!!

I booked with a travel agent, and got a confirmation number that worked on MDE .

Also got emails from her and mail from Disney saying they were expecting me.

That's an excellent solution! Now you can enjoy peace of mind and that is worth something on its own. Have a great time!

As others have said, your TA should forward you the Disney confirmation each time you make a payment. It may be too late to cancel with her, because there's no guarantee. You'll be able to rebook with the same discount. I would demand she emails you the Disney confirmation showing you've paid in full. I'm not sure if at this point you can have your reservation transferred to Disney travel Co.
I've used 3 different Disney Authorized Vacation agencies. I've always been emailed the Disney confirmation.
Let us know how it turns out. Sorry this has happened to you, so stressful.

She cancelled the trip with the agency and rebooked on her own after getting her TA#. Disney said it must be paid in full because I was allowed to check in online (which I did yesterday). They said if anything was owed then it wouldn't let me check in. But I'm afraid she'll cancel it before I go and get her money back. I know of no one she has scammed but she's been doing weird stuff the last 6 months. I emailed asking for the confirmation emails from Disney. Everything shows up perfectly on mydisneyexperience but I'm not able to see any amounts (which makes sense but leaves me nervous). Thanks again for all the help!
What do you mean, she'll cancel and get her money back :confused3. That's confusing? It wasn't her money, you made the payments, it's your money. That would be theft! If she cancels Disney reimburses the credit card that payments were made on. They wouldn't reimburse the money to the TA.

If you use a TA always make sure they are legit and get references if you can. When we were in Paris a few years ago a couple was trying to check in but the hotel had no record of them or any payment. The couple only had an email from their TA but no confirmation of their payment or anything from the hotel. To make matters worse it was late on a Saturday and the TA was closed until Monday. They got a room but had to pay the hotel.
