Can 2 1/2 yrold potty trained get into oceaneers club?
My DS will be within 4 months of 3 yrs and is potty trained. What are the chances he would be allowed to participate int he older club? Has anyone ever had experience in this area.

I know that exceptions have been made between the oceaneers club and oceaneers lab on trial basis.

That far away from 3, probably not much of a chance. You'll never know until you ask, but they probably also base letting children in based on the number of children in the particular program on that sailing. Also, just so you know, completely potty trained, means that they have to be able to do EVERYTHING by themselves, the counselors aren't allowed to help at all.

Our experience from our first cruise, they allowed two year olds who were less than 30 days from their third bday into the club. Think it also varies depending on numbers of children on board and ages etc.

It worked well for our friends, but they must be completely able to get to the potty independently, no help from the staff.

Maybe they have changed the rules but they were very strict on the less than 30 days thing at that time (May 02).

We will be sailing next year when our dd is one week from her third bday and I already know not to plan on her being allowed in the club, but one can always hope for a little magic.

Also, there are times when you can take your little one into the club to play.

That is part of the reason the under 3 children are only charged a small fee...they don't use the clubs. I'd be surprised if they allowed it.

As someone else mentioned, it's not only the issue of the child being potty trained but also the staff/child ratio. The children's program staff knows ahead of time how many children they'll have onboard of appropriate ages and plan for that amount. I'd think a strict policy would be in place also because there are so many variables ( children's age doesn't necessarily equate with their level of maturity for one example) and thus rather than deny one family and accept another based on one of those variables, they'd stick closely to that age limit to be fair and equitable to all (besides requiring a child to be totally potty trained and capable of toileting independently.) ---Kathy

when we went I had one DD4 and the other DD2.5. I never asked if I could leave her,(because they have rules for a reason) but they let me stay with her in the club.
She was able to do all the things the other kids did as long as I stayed with her. Needless to say I Spent a lot of time in the club because she loved it. I was her vacation too so we let her play.

we sailed in January, and DD did not turn 3 until June. After a short "interview" with the director, she was allowed to go into the club on a "trial basis". I think the key elements were: 1 asked discretely to talk to her....I didn't have the conversation out in the open for all to hear; I didn't just assume that she would be allowed--going in her favor she has 2 older siblings, and I teach music, so she's been in preschool every day for 2 years; then, the director had her follow a few 2-3 step instructions. It's not just the potty thing, but they also have to be able to keep up with all the other children. Also in her favor was the fact that we cruised in January, when it tends to be less crowded. They have a 3 potty accident rule....not just for trial kids, but for everybody. She did have 1 accident, and they just paged us to bring her a change of clothes. All in all, it doesn't hurt to ask....just remember a lot of it is how you ask. Best of luck.

Hi krhardy, it's nice to see another music teacher on board! My dh and I team teach Music and Band at our 6 schools k-12. Our ds-12 plays in the band with us.
