Can 18 year olds get into Atlantic Dance or Jellyrolls with parents?

Does anyone know if our teenagers can come into Atlantic Dance or Jellyrolls with us? I've read you need to be 21, but what if you're with adults? Thanks.

I know at JellyRolls you need to 21, parent or no parent. I have yet to see a crowd at Atlantic Dance so we've never gone.

You must be 21 to enter Atlantic Dance (with or without your parents).

The signs out front all say "You Must Be 21 Years or Older To Enter". We sat on the Boardwalk last weekend down by the clubs and noticed them carding the kids that were with their families - none under 21 got in, and most were really upset with the doormen. A lot of didn't have any ID with them, and the parents were even saying that they verified they were over 21, but no go. We saw one family with a small child (probably around 6 years old) go strolling in Jellyroll's, and I don't think the doormen even noticed the small child at first, but in about 2 seconds they were escorted back out! Disney really needs to have a non-alcohol "disco/club" for kids there, since it looked like plenty of kids and families wanted to dance and couldn't get in. Of course, if you were older you could walk right in - I dared my 49 year old DH to go see if he still looked young enough to be carded, but he wouldn't!

Seahunt I absolutely agree with you. We were on the Disney cruise last month and it was fantastic to see dueling pianos with the kids. The even served alcohol (ooooooooh) to adults with children present. I would love to bring the kids out to dance or listen to music somewhere. What is up with that anyhow???? It IS Disney! Bring us a family night club!

There is a place where you CAN take your children to bars. It's called Pleasure Island. You should have no problem taking the kiddies there. Lots of people do. There are all ages of children there.

I've never been to Atlantic Dance, but do go to Jellyrolls. As an adult with no children (mine are grown) I like having ONE place that I can go at WDW without tripping over small children.

You can bring kids into Pleasure Island?????? I'm surprised to hear that. I thought no kids were allowed under 18.

I partially agree with inaminute--I LIKE having a place where children are not allowed--it was one of the things I LOVED about the Magic.

I disagree about PI--I DON'T think it's an appropriate place for kids. Unless you normally take your kids to bars at home, I do'nt know why you would do so on vacation...

That said, perhaps there is an answer to several problems in this thread. Atlantic Dance has been struggling to find it's identity since it first opened. It's become an albatross, a white elephant. At the same time although WDW finally solved the "what to do with teens that are too old for kids clubs but not old enough for PI" with the opening of Disney Quest, there still is not a family oriented, no alcohol served place for dancing and entertainment that is INDOORS. Atlantic Dance might be a perfect solution. Providing a variety of dance music, a bar that served a variety of non-alcoholic specialty drinks and maybe even light snacks and imposing an affordable cover charge to get in ($3 for kids, $5 for adults, with DVC members getting $1 off might be appropriate) might just be the answer.

What do you all think?

Only when accompanied by their parents, they are still not allowed in Mannequins, and they serve alcohol in the streets--not a family atmosphere by any means, and not a place that I would take my youngsters to.

Just thinking out loud here.. but 99.9% of Disney is child-oriented already (imho). I like that AD is a place for adults only. And while it does have a few problems, I believe they can be fixed. Not all adults like the hip atmosphere of PI.. and AD offers them an alternative.

ziggie-

Here's a possibility-

Make AD into a family place, and at the same time take the 8-Trax at PI and make that into more of a swing/50's/etc. type place.

That would give the adults a more adult atmosphere (PI) to ahve their swing/50's club, and provide extended family oriented entertainment at the BW--where many families are already flocking in the evening.

I don't understand why they need FOUR (sometimes FIVE when R&R doesn't have a band) disco's that play hiphop/house/dance music at PI--it's absurd. 8-Trax, Mannequins, Motion, BET, PLUS the DJ spinning outside and often the West End Stage all place a variety of dance music--and it all sounds the same to me!!! (OK, rap sounds different...)

Leave Mannequins, Comedy Warehouse, BET, PI Jazz, and the AC alone. Make 8-Trax into a swing/50's type of place. Make Motion into a coffee house with accoustic performers. Have REAL ROCK bands at RRBC EVERY NIGHT! And offer a mix on the West End stage.

Hi Anne, nice to meet you :)

The one thing I like about AD is that it's not anywhere near PI. It's an entirely different crowd there.. older adults who aren't into the hipness of PI... know what I mean? I actually loathe the parking lot and crowds at PI and West End. Where on earth did those people learn how to drive? Just a few days ago, we watched a Mitsubishi turn right into the PI parking lot from the middle lane. Mind you, a BUS was in the right hand lane. He had to turn right in front of it as it was trying to get through the light.

I'd rather have AD off by itself.. and where it is now is just fine. I'm probably in the minority, but I wouldn't frequent a swing/50's type of place if I had to fight the crowds at PI to do it.

I love the idea of a family oriented dance club, but I dont think it has to be alcohol free. Alcohol is served around kids all over WDW and the ship, as mentioned above, so I dont think this needs to be any different. Plus I think something like that might reduce the number of kids in PI which I know upsets a lot of people. It would be a place where kids are more than welcome yet the parents can still have a drink or 2. If it were sort of "geared" toward kids I cant see the real partiers wanting to go there to get drunk.
I know we saw a lot of kids at the DXL lounge having a great time with Bob the piano player. That was even a big highlight of the trip for my then 3 1/2 yo...and it was nice for us adults to have a drink after a long day at the parks. Just because Im a parent doesnt mean I dont like to have a drink or 2 while on vacation. ;)

Cam colt--you've got a point! I guess rather than alcohol free, I should have said the emphasis should be on family fun rather than drinking. That said I'll bet they'd make a FORTUNE selling those non-alcoholic specialty drinks that go $5-6 a pop!

I would make it non-smoking though :)

When they used to have the dance party outside of AD they had a small portable bar that served beer and wine as well as soda. We had the absolute best time there with the kids, I was surprised never to see it there again.

I have to agree they need something for the tweens.:D

I haven't been here in a while but I think that these ideas for a family club sound wonderful. As the parents of 2 older teens we are stuggling to find a place to go for vacation this year. Sadly it seems we will be at the shore for the first time in 18 years. We could agree on this place this year because the children wanted to have somewhere to go and be with their age group without us hoovering. They seem to think the boardwalk will be fun. Both my children love to dance and I think that it would be wonderful to have a club to go to that is alchol free. We have a few places in the city that offer one night a week that is alchol free and they are packed on those nights. I of course worry about the crowds at them but kids do need to have fun. I had lots of fun and didn't get drunk or do drugs when I was 18, 19 & 20. I actually love the rave music that my children play. It has a good beat and I can dance to it.
Ducklite I think you may be on to something here I hope that Disney thinks about it, my husband is so depressed that we aren't going to his happy place this year. I think he will enjoy a fishing excursion with our son though.

Oh, I like this. :D Nonsmoking is a good point... again, good for kids, and will detract the hard partiers. Maybe they could have Karaoke 1 night, a dance party/dj 1 night, sing along/piano player(like Bob) another night. Geesh, my kids are only 6 & 3 but I know they would love that...and so would I ;)

You are right about the drinks too. Smoothies were a big hit with my nieces on the cruise.
